Default Blu-ray vs. SE DVDs

Is it just me or is it incredibly annoying when the BluRay release does not include the same extra as were on the SE DVD. Now I'm not asking for features to be in 1080p (Some may consider this sacrilidge) but if there is a 2 Disc DVD with a second disc of special features is it to much to ask for the studio to at least include that DVD (not BR) with the BR release.

Having said that, anyone know of a source for 2 disk BR cases. I think I'm going to move some of the Disc 2 DVDs to the BR case so at least I can put the old DVD away....

Also does anyone have a a definitive list of discs where the DVD SE included material not available with the BR release and what that material consisted off

Yep. Which is why I don't upgrade unless all/most of the extras are ported over.

nope, PQ and AQ of the feature film is ALL that matters. Extras are just gravy that i'll glance at once before either not looking at them again or just tossing a the second disc away.

^^ I agree. If the extras on the disk take away from PQ or AQ, I don't want the extras.

My point exactly.. But would it cost that much to simply include a copy of the "Disc 2 DVD" from the SE with the BluRay version.

While I almost never watch the extras (maybe 1% of the time), it does annoy me that they aren't there.

It's wasted space and technology. Along with better PQ/AQ, we need to progress our demands. BLU should be much more than a little bit better movie viewing experience.

We'll get there I'm sure.

Rup.
There is still plenty of space left to port extras from the SE/CEs. Check out benes AV specification thread on this forum and in AVS (stickied) to find out the remaining space left on the disc and to realize how notorious a studio (FOX) can be to movie lovers.

If I see a BD without extras, I put it right back on the shelf. The extra I love the most is a pop up commentary. (See Star Trek movies for that and POTC:CoBP) PiP, I think is also a very good extra if it's more then a lame talking head, and actually includes something relevant, ala the pop up text commentary. Some deleted scenes add to the movie, or give you a better feel for the movie itself. What is also cool is a making of featurette, I've rewatched most of those over and over just to see how they did certain scenes in the film.

Yes. I largely agree with this opinion. PQ and AQ of the feature film matters to me rather than the extras.

However, I cannot see any justification not to add extras on a 50GB blu-ray disk. I cannot imagine that 3-4 GB extras harming a feature film on a 50GB disk.

Not particularly bothered about S/E extras, they only do that on SD DVD to try an boost the sales, as they are dipping. All that matters to me is Picture and the best audio possible.

For those of you wanting these extras, how many times do you watch these? I can't recall any extra that I have viewed more than once. I would be *****ing more about not having theatrical, extended, directors cut seamlessly. That's the true beauty of blu-ray, not just trying to fill 50gb to give some sense of value.

Btw, someone else started a thread about this yesteday night.

You'll get a lot of lame people saying that extras don't matter. But i'm with you! I have multiple copies of DVDs for the features... but wont do it on blu-ray. It's what they want and it's lame...

hopefully BD-Live, or the store, will allow us to download features instead of them trying to make us buy different blus every 3 months.

While I would love to see a Blu have as many extras or more then an SE DVD, truthfully I would not watch most of the extras. And if I did watch them, it would probably be only once. The sad thing is I would probably avoid buying a Blu if I thought I was missing out on some extras even if deep down I knew I would not watch them and that the PQ/AQ is more important then the extras I would not touch.

Some times, not including bonuses don't make sense.
The Predator disc 2 DVD bonuses is a 2.4gb disc. Don't tell me Blu cannot accomodate those extras

Most of the people here are looking for the best possible movie viewing experience and consider the extras to be gravy, that doesn't make us lame.

Seems like we're seeing more and more of these threads popping up which is funny considering that Blu-Rays are getting more and more features

I guess I'm not very typical here, since I would pay an extra $1 get BD's without all that extra crap which confuses and slows down my disc navigation. Also, I would throw in another $1 if they would leave the previews off my disc.

i agree with the OP, i have stop buying BD movie completly now because of this crap. 50 gig! they should be able to cramp in non HD extra in there just like the standard dvd. And it's not lame, i'm all for the PQ and AQ but i am also love the extra behind the scene and deleted scene.

Don't care about extra... really last time i watched them .. was... oh wait.. i listened to the Evil Dead 2 Commentary Track when it was originally released on DVD in 2000...

IMHO the quality of extra is so poor that it's a joke to actually put any ...

Unless is a 'real story' movie and they did 'documentary' on it, it's interesting.. otherwise i just don't give a wack.

Isn't it easy to skip extras etc. since the blu-ray movies start straight away without going through the menus. You select menus and navigate if you want see the rest.
