On amazon's product page for Alien Anthology there is a note about updating firmware for the Samsung BD-P2550 (2500) and other players that people on here may have:
Please note: The following Blu-ray players might need a firmware update to ensure successful playback of this product: Panasonic BD10 and BD80; PS3; Sharp HDS43, BD-HP21, and BD-HP20; Sony BDP-N460, 370, and 350; Samsung 1000, 1200, 1590, 2550, and BD-P3600; Oppo BD80 and BD83. My question is specific to my player. I checked the firmware on the player through the internet connection and it says it is the latest firmware but the file number for the download from Samsung's website shows it is more recent (November '09 vs April '10) Previously I have not had to use the USB flashdrive method to upgrade my firmware but have always updated vie the internet / ethernet connection on the player. Has anybody else run across this issue? Does anybody know what the update is for on this specific title? |

I haven't tried to update via flash yet as I am curious as to way the player says the older firmware is up to date after doing an internet firmware check.
Have you played Alien Anthology yet? My thinking is that it something to do with BD-Live or some other functionality with the interactive menu system? |

I decided to become proactive for nothing cuz I thought my Sony BX2 would have needed an update for my Alien Anthology. I requested a .008 firmware disc from Sony and when I read the paperwork after I got it, it seemed to only state that an upgrade was needed from .007 to an 8 only if I wanted BD-LIVE...since I have no use for that stuff, I just plopped my Alien and then Aliens in and ZERO problems without using the firmware disc! I will leave well enough alone for now. I LOVE my humble Sony Blu Ray! $199, zero hiccups unlike others who buy more expensive models and have issues.. especially...*giggle..OPPOS

I have an OPPO BDP83 and it's played every movie without one issue and I own almost 500 blus, so I don't know what you mean with that statement.

Well I popped it in this morning and at least the first one seems fine in the first few minutes. On the director's cut, Ridley Scott does appear in a box about 1/4 of the screen size in the upper left hand corner as previously reported on other forums.
I haven't tried the other discs yet but for now I am going to stick with my existing firmware unless serious problems crop up. |
