it was a highly superior movie. the first one was all about gore. this one's more about characters and backstory.

I thought both movies are excellent. However I'm watching Hostel II on Blu-ray right now and the PQ is HORRIBLE!!! So fuzzy.

Also, it lacks in the audio department with only 5.1PCM which is not like Lionsgate. Normally you can count on Lionsgate to put a 7.1 track on their movies....

Hostel I offers a little more in the scares dept with things like the chainsaw in the face. However, the last half of the movie is more of a comedy than a horror/suspense movie. Most people were laughing the theater.

Hostel II offers little new in the horror/suspense category over I. They even use yet another saw close to the face.. copying off its previous movie. The II is only good in terms that the story between the two brothers is slightly interesting and the small twist at the end was unexpected but the movie fails at delivering any kind of good solid character.

In short both movies were far from good. The second was worse in my opinion and TOTALLY bombed in the theater compared to the first one. The main idea of both movies is quite good but fail in almost every category for a good movie (story, characters, delivery, directing, dialogue, suspense etc).

IMO the second one was garbage in comparison to the first. Didn't seem as "believable".

I just now read the review for it as far as video quality and unfortunately just picked it up earlier. I'm now wondering if I should not open it and return it. I don't want to spend money for an HD movie if it looks horrible. Is the video worse than the dvd version?

I thought the PQ was pretty good. After reading a review at another site, I was kind of worried about it but after watching it, it makes me wonder if he even watched the movie. So, I'm curious to see how it'll be rated from other reviewers. Anyway, I thought the movie itself was okay. A couple of the scenes were pretty disturbing.

I actually just finished watching both Hostel films.

Both were entertaining and disturbing, but I preferred the first.

I liked both films. Liked the backstory about the clients in the 2nd film & they way they wrapped up the loose ends from the 1st film. PQ & SQ are average but its never meant to be a demo disc.

I see our buddy Peter Bracke gave the Hostel II BD 2/5 stars for video quality.

You know what you're going to get with these movies.

I passed on the UK Hostel 1 as it was a bare bones disc, these horror movies really benefit from a good set of extras, they can be as entertaining as the main feature.

I thought the first one was okay, but I absolutely loved the second. I thought it was the final word on "Torture Porn", and an excellent slab of satire. Turns the tables on the typical misogynist slasher film; I would even go so far as to say that this revenge film gets it's revenge on the entire genre, as well as characters in the story. I bought it the day after I rented it from Netflix.

Nothing remotely "fuzzy" about Hostel 2. High frequency detail is outstanding. Black levels are severely crushed though, which is questionably inconsistent with the first film. It seems pretty obvious a result of digital post correction, which, if making assumptions, can only be assumed was approved by Roth and/or Chadima.

I like the extra contrasty look with pumped colors myself. Such has it's place. But, in this one, it could have still used a little more shadow detail, IMHO. It still was extremely satisfying though, if not as strong a story as the first film or Cabin Fever. But such is the plight of sequels.

I concur. Sharp contrasty boosted image, where shadows and blacks go inky.
