Default new to Blu-ray (PS3)

I recently purchased a playstation 3 for the sole purpose to watch Blu-Ray DVD's. Are Blu-Ray DVD's worth all the hype? And is playstation 3 the way to go? Newbie BTW, thanks!

Playstation 3 makes a very nice blu-ray player and a video gaming machine all in one package and plus with Blu-ray movies it depends on how good the company mastered the High Definition but pretty much every Blu-ray has been fantastic with audio and picture quality

the reviewer for this website gave it a 3.5 for the video quality and a 4.0 for the audio thats not as good as what I Am Legend got but still pretty good plus blu-ray discs are scratch resistant and hold up to 50gb of data

I hope you have a 1080p HDTV and and HDMI cable to connect it to the PS3 with. If you didn't buy the HDMI cable seperately, there isn't one in the box. Connecting the PS3 with just the cable that comes in the box will make the Blu-rays look like a regular DVD with a pinch better colouring.

And, as for 'Batman Begins', if it is your favourite movie, I would HIGHLY recommend watching it first! It's a far cry better than the DVD version. And, since you haven't seen any other Blu-rays, you won't be disappointed at all since the quality will be the only reference you have. Thus, your Blu-ray experience can only get better!!!

I'm pretty new to ps3 also. I got the mgs4 bundle and since then i have 10 blu-rays and 7 ps3 games. Its a very good investment imo. My first Blu-ray was 3:10 to yuma. And it set a high standard from that point on.
I recommend it.

3:10 to yuma
jumper
i robot
i am legend
alvin and the chipmunks
cars
mr and mrs smith
ratatouille
into the blue
casino royale

Thats my collection so far. And i havent been dissappointed with the movie or quality of any of those.

My only concern is if you have extra money to throw around for it. I try to get a blu-ray every other week...It can get pricey. But i think its worth it.
Good luck with your decision.

Default Welcome aboard

Nice choice, in the PS3, hopefully you have a HDTV and HDMI cable to connect to your PS3. Also a receiver that will decode the HD Audio tacks (lossless, DDHD, DTS HD MA and so on) is the next step if the bankbook will allow, and then you can be completely immersed in your BLU heaven. You wont regret your choice either way have fun.

I am able to watch HD channels that I have on my 51" flat screen, so I am sure that my father had the HDMI cable hooked up along with it, would HD picture still be as clear if I did not have the HDMI?

Also, how do I add a picture to my profile so I'm not so plain? The Dark Knight comes out on July 18th, and I don't know what to do with myself until then!!!!

Don't assume there's an HDMI cable back there. Remember that cable/sat is only able to output at 1080i at this point and 1080i can be achieved using composite cables. 1080p BluRay can only be fully realized using a HDMI cable. So yeah, your cable/sat picture is gonna look pretty much the same whatever cable you've got back there, but you'll need HDMI to take full advantage of the PS3 and bluray.

I am in luck! As well as purchasing the PS3, I did get an additional package called "Ultimate Kit" which includes HDMI cable (9 ft)! Also comes with an intercooler to cool the PS3? and also a Dual charger AC which simultaneously recharges two ps3 controllers.

Any comments/suggestions? All the other stuff that comes with it unnecessary?

don't think the cooler is necessary...other than that the kit is fine.

That'll get 'er done!

As for the cooler. I wouldn't use that. It has been know to actually cause overheating of the PS3... ironic isn't it?

To add a profile picture, click on the "User CP" option near the top left of these forum screens and you should see an option on the let side of the page that comes up that says "Edit Avatar." From there I'm sure that you can figure it out.
