Default grainy video on Cloverfield?

It's very grainy when they first walk outside, and a few other parts through out the movie. Is this on everyones elses copy, or pehaps I got a bunk one?

Cloverfield use 3 different camera. the camera inside the Party is a Real 1080p cam (consumer electronics) so of course under crappy lightning is Noisy and not grainy..

IMO this movie has another kind of shakiness which is the shaking of my walls from the excellent LFE.

This is my surprise favorite movie of the year so far. I say surprise because movies like Cloverfield are not really my type of movies. But this movie is a blast and the audio is as good as the audio in Master and Commander.

There is some grain but that is part of the movie. Think of it as a special effect.

I agree, I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the movie. I was also surprised at how good the PQ and the AQ was on the BD. There was a few moments of grain, but I think that was intended. But yeah, Im very pleasantly surprised at how the BD of Cloverfield came out.

Currently there is no such thing as a true 1080p consumer priced video camera.

Cloverfield was shot on digital video, not film. The "grain" people are seeing is CCD noise. It's not quite as bad as some of the shots in Miami Vice, but it's still noticeable digital noise.

Same here.

Overall the movie was pretty well done. If anything at all, the only minor minor thing is how "clean" the picture still looks when they are surrounded by dust when buildings are coming down and all. Anyone who have seen footage of 9/11 knows just how dusty the lens could get when buildings are coming down...

Grain would actually be good on a movie like Cloverfield... at least there would be something relatively interesting to watch while the film is playing...

Strictly speaking, a Digital Rebel doesn't have a CCD, it has a CMOS sensor

Hey,

I rented it and liked it.

But it did look like it was filmed by a person with a camcorder.

seriously are you people for real....looked like it was filmed by a person with a camcorder !!! wtf

it is supposed to look like it was filmed by a person with a camcorder

because a person with a "camcorder" was filming the lead protagonist's leaving party when the sh1t hits the fan !

, what ever grain you can "see" is intentional

and the film WAS shot in HD using Sony range of CineAlta cameras

they shoot at 1920 by 1080 pixels and 24fps. watch the special features and you will see them using the cameras.

methinks some people need to get their tv's recalibrated or get their eyesight tested !!!!!

watched cloverfield last night ...blew me away.

oh and hello people...im a long time lurker, but had to join when i saw this stupid thread lol

Never said it was a CCD, said it look like, because most people doesn't even know what sensor are in DSLR but 99% don't know what inside their digital camera anyway.

With CCD on consumer P&S Camera, ISO400 is enought to blow you mind noise wise

Yeah,.. I was making a joke.

Welcome to the forum, Glad you decided to start posting.

I was going to seek out a tread about "the eye" and complain the picture was often out of focus but I bet a lot of people wouldn't understand that joke either so I'll go ahead and skip that one.
