Default Blu-Ray ad on NBC Universal web site

I think it's well known that NBC and Universal Studios are both the same company(NBC Universal). Well I was at NBC.com today and noticed a little something:

Does this mean we'll be seeing Universal BDs soon? It may be a stretch, but if NBC Universal is willing to advertise Blu-Ray on one of their biggest websites, they are probably at least open to the idea.

I don't see it. There is a black square instead of Sony BD player.

EDIT: Appears my Firefox cannot play Flash 9. Tried IE7, but it is a different ad.

EDIT: Looks like they rotate ads.

It's just an advertising block. It's sold space to an ad agency. Nothing nefarious and no portents there. Both Sony and Toshiba have bought ad space with the major companies and such ads even show up on my site. Lionsgate does a ton of promotion this way I might ad.

There have to be things in place so that companies don't advertise their competition though.

Kinda off topic note.. Blu-Ray has been advertised for the last 2 months in the Chelsea magazine (uk football team) I think it's the only UK advertising (not including websites) I've seen!

When you're a company that's owned by GE, how much of the market can't you advertise? Honestly, look at it this way, Even though Universal isn't selling BD they're making money off of it because of the ads.

I'm no fan of HD DVD but the ads run on my site and I make money off of it.

You have to admit though, being "no fan" of Blu-Ray and being NBC Universal, HD-DVD's saving grace are two different things.

You won't see advertisements for a non-Sony distributed movie on a Sony Pictures website, you won't see the PS3 or its games advertised in Official Xbox Magazine and you won't see any Coca-Cola products advertised on Pepsi's website or any of their subsidiaries like Taco Bell and Pizza Hut.

Well, what I'm saying is, don't see conspiracy or hope in what's simply a matter of business.

And while you won't see a PS3 game advertised in the Xbox magazine, you will see crossplatform games advertised in thee with PS3, Nintendo, PSP and other versions listed right next to the 360 logo.

When you have a site as sprawling as NBCUniversal is, there isn't the same kind of overall scrutiny given to things like Blu-ray ads. On the Universal films site, of course you won't see competing films. Odds are you won't even see ads for anything. There are levels within levels. The main NBCU site is a media hub site and is intent on maximizing profits by promoting not only their own materials but products from other places that will earn it money. You do see ads for blu-ray movie releases on NBC don't you?

Ive seen a huge xbox 360 ad in the ps3 section in gamespot. No ad in the 360 section, just the ps3 section. The ad tuned the whole page green. Very annoying. I dont know why I bother with gamespot. They are one of the worst as far as game sites go.
