Default AVS on a rampage, Blu-Ray supporters banned?

It's disappointing to see all of this going on over at AVS. The folks in Rochester who own the site are first class guys and have run a great forum for a number of years. This format war has turned it into a juvenile circus, far out of character for the AVS forum we have known.

At this point, I think if it were my forum, I'd removed the format war sections and get back to basics, before they lose all their credibility. Their servers can hardly handle the traffic as it is.

Nothing new.

It's becomling less subtle and more aggressive since CES 2007 is clearly such a bomb for HD-DVD and clearly spells out the beginning of its end in no uncertain terms.

Desperate times call for increasingly desperate tactics like these.

They can't let pesky facts get in the way so just ban the people that post them.

Yoyo hasn't done himself any favors, nor have a few others, by deliberately going into HD-DVD only areas and posting stuff. That is technically trolling, although how many HD-DVD zealots do that in the BD areas with ne'er a blink of the eye?

I wish the BDA would really consider some lawsuits.

I appreciate the fact that some people want to keep up the good fight and try fight against the sea of misinformation, but I can't stress this enough: Your wallet can do far more in a few moments then spending hours on end in useless pissing contests on Internet forums.

As a paid member I would love to see AVS face a lawsuit by banning someone without merit. MArk Rubin at his best. First it was challenge the information not the person posting. Now it's time for a good ole fashion book burning and public lynching if you don't conform. They are truly cowards over there.

They'll never get two cents of my money.

Anyone who's a paid member there, such as yourself, should be in a livid rage and making all kinds of noise and chaos.

I got banned, and now IP Banned. Seriously, if you support blu-ray, you're public enemy #1.

If you are IP banned, use Scroogle to go there through a proxy.

Yikes , they seem pretty thin-skinned over there when a fact they don't like is thrown at them.

Yep, I got ANOTHER warning today threatening suspension if I "publicly challenged Modertaor actions"....
unbelieveable. The HDdvd trolls had a feeding frenzy yesterday after the CES BD software announcments and I called them and AVS on it and got my ass handed to me.

What you need to do now, is pm alan gouger, and various other ADMIN's of the forum who have more power then mark rubin. Give them direct links to where the abuse is taking place and explain to them that AVSForum is become worse then a pokemon forum because people like Mark Rubin are driving away posters, posters who shop at their sponcers buisness and will not pay the AVS club fee in fear of expressing an opinion and getting banned by mark rubin.

Trust me, you get the message to the right people, and Alan is a real strait shooter, it will get heard.

The thing is, Mark Rubin has been rather neutral in his posts. Perhaps mildly pro-BD.

Something else is going on.

heya fellow-exiles from AVS,

what recourse does AVS have if I reregister (against their explicit instructions ) and they find out for sure (somehow) that WHD (under an alias, of course) has returned?

Any legal openings? Or is banning me again the absolute max that they can do ?

Or shall I wait for the trigger-happy and biased mods to quit (prob in shame)? The day cannot be far off. My experience is that what goes around comes around.

they can't do anything to you, another ban is the worst they can do to you. .....rdjam alone has a few accounts, rdjam=ahartig=kosty

but for now I'm keeping a low profile there .....waiting for more bigger news

If they aren't the same person, they may as well be.

More than one person has suggested the idea that the "legendary" DeadmeatGA and rdjam could be the same person as well.

Maybe, maybe not. They all have the same failed ideology which is: Deliberately lie and try to deceive others.

They're all definitely the same kind of person, if nothing else.

cool, thanks. see you on the AVS boards

If that AVS mod is reading this, he is going to be busy scanning IP addresses of every innocent who signs up from now on in

Should keep him busy and prevent him from harassing the BD supporters as much.

Out of all evil arises good, as they say..

thanks Onanie =)

I accept that punishment should be there for a breach of the rules, even if out of ignorance and with no malice.

Fascinating thing is:
1. The poll is closed and mod msgs me.

2. I apologize for breach and from threatening "action" they go to no action at all (which seemed nice until I realized that the intention prob was to get the poll closed. Sure seems that way to me).

3. So when I ask that the poll be reopened and that my (unknowing) breach should have no effect on the poll's suitability AND I publicly apologize, I get banned for life
If the offence was so major, I should have been banned in the 1st place.

If I was banned for effectively (and Very politely) telling the mod that a perfectly good poll was being stifled, well.. what can one say?

The phrase "power trip" comes to mind.

cheers, you guys keep up the BD work at AVS

Ai'll be baak

Arrow @ the relevant AVS mod

hey dude,

If you are reading this, know that your actions, from where I am standing, were weak, very weak

I am sure you feel and think you did the right thing (as of course do I). Fair enough, to each his own.

No resolution is possible but the closing of an objective poll is hilarious by any measure.

cheers,
your PM pal from last night,
WHD (aka SO)
