It'll be a few years before this one's broken. I remember when Spidey's 114 mil was almost untouchable because both SW's movies failed at it (although, ROTS's first three days outperformed Spidey's first three, but those three days happened to be Thur, Fri, and Sat), and Spidey 2. And then Pirates blew it out of the water. To me Pirates was a kind of sleeper movie to do that and I think that might be the case with the TDK-buster.

if spider man 4 does well and makes up for part 3, i think part 5 will break it.
either that or possibly the 2nd part of book # 7 for Harry Potter. that is if the dark knight sequel doesn't 1st. Last edited by Blu-Benny; 05-14-2009 at 09:56 PM. |

i dont think any movie this year has a shot in hell at dethroning it
transformers 2 had the best shot at getting close (dont think it would have beat it anyway though) but it is opening on a tuesday at midnight, so it will have been out for two full days before the weekend, which will probably lower the total weekend boxoffice quite a bit i doubt spiderman 4 does it after the hate towards spiderman 3 iron man 2 won't do it either imo, the first made 98ish, so i think this one will probably pull in around 120-130opening weekend i wouldn't think harry potter either, because the opening weekend grosses for harry potter films are hovering around 100million, but the final movie could possibly out do tdk's final box office tally with the proven success of the franchise the series has averaged over 800million worldwide per film with 2 or 3 in the top 10 worldwide grosses Avengers, MAYBE if Cap/Thor do really good and give it a great lead in dark knights sequel could possibly do it depending on the trailers/marketing/reviews being as good or better than TDK's was besides those two i can't think of any that could realistically beat the 158million mark (unless ticket prices go up ALOT) |

I don't think TF2 will garner more than TDK at all. |

Harry Potter in July, what I am thinking is the delay might do one of ywo things...
two years absence for Harry and the fans will go nuts at the box office or two years absence will hurt the cnaces of making a good box office run and Warner Bros made a mistake and should have left it in November last year. |

I am gonna say that there is no film coming out that will match TDK opening weekend. TDK had a lot going for it in those first few days-
Batman Begins, good first film that got people interested Great publicity, the showing of ten minutes in the IMAX theaters. Death of Heath Ledger, made people who would not normally go to see this film, go to see what the fuss was about. Batman 3 could do it, but they would have to ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Transformers 2 comes out on a Wednesday. It will burn off too much demand to still beat $158.4 million during the weekend. TF2 will burn off around $80 million in demand during Wednesday and Thursday. It does have a slim chance at beating TDK's 5-day record, which is nearly $204 million.
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/alltime...?days=5&p=.htm If TF2 makes around $80 million for the first two days, it would need a weekend of roughly $124 million to beat TDK's 5-day record. It's possible, but probably not likely. Last edited by Blu-Malibu2009; 05-15-2009 at 02:09 PM. |
