Default Enter the Dragon and The Dirty Dozen

Right on the front page of our home here. I didn't see any discussion on these titles yet, so I figured I would start it up.

I guess this is Warner's first dive into "catching up" on BD releases. Now if they would just give me Batman Begins, V For Vendetta, and Poseidon all would be well.

I'll probably pick up Enter the Dragon.

I imagine that we will see these 'low effort' titles before the ones that require dual stream etc.

I noticed these were listed as VC-1. I haven't heard much about the VC-1 encodes. Is there any chance these will be optimized for HD-DVD and not as sharp as they could have been?

Warner pretty much "cut and pastes" these transfers onto BD, so the reviews for the HD-DVD should be the same for these BD's.

I'll be picking up Enter The Dragon

These are going to be exact clones of the HD-DVD versions. Warner doesn't do seperate encodes for BD and HD-DVD.

I guess my question is really more about the VC-1 encodes than these specific titles.

I've heard that the HD camp say VC-1 gives better quality than BR but I've also heard that they can't always give a high enough bit rate to the encode because of disc capacity.

I suppose the real question then is can VC-1 give the same quality with a 30G disc capacity as an AVC encode that has 50G to work with?

These are both 50GB discs. I assume Warner was waiting to release most of their "missing" titles until their very high output demands could be met.

Glad to see they're starting to trickle out the titles, but I really want the big ones, i.e. Batman, V, etc. Although I will most definitely be picking up Enter the Dragon.

50 gig discs? These are going to smoke and burn their HD-DVD predecessors.

Default Enter The Dragon

Did anybody buy Enter the Dragon over the weekend in Australia?

Saw it in JB Hi-Fi (Sydney) on Saturday but held off buying it as I was unsure the transfer quality was going to be worth it (I already have 3 versions !!!)

If you did purchase it - any chance of a few screenshots or review of the PQ?

Cheers

It will be a port of the HD DVD version, so I am pointing you to the HD DVD review of this title.

Thanks for that - made interesting reading.

Looks like I will make the jump unless anybody has actually watched the BD release :-)
