Default what to set my speaker levels on my reciever for surround sound?

I have the sony str-820 reciever , sony blu-ray 350 player, klipsch speakers.
I am having a problem not getting that head turning surround sound out of my 2 rear speakers that i should be getting, i think my speaker levels might be not set right, any suggestions!

If your receiver does not have a calibration program, you should use an SPL meter to adjust your speaker levels. Read Calibrating Your Audio with an SPL Meter.

An alternative to the SPL meter or a calibration program is to just sit down in your listening position and turn on the test tones. Ideally they should all sound at the same level, but adjust them to your liking. Each home theater is going to be different, but typically you don't want your surrounds to be distracting.

Definitely. If you want to do it right, that is how.
