Default Onkyo 605 help

I'm at a loss right now. I have no audio coming through my set-up, when watching cable tv. I don't know what happened but the only way I can get audio on the CBL/SAT channel is by having the HDMI passthrough. No issues at all when playing BD or games, surround sound glory there, only when trying to watch cable.

Any suggestions?

How are you sending the audio from your HDTV/cable box to your receiver?

It could be a problem with the software in the cable box...in my cable market here (which is Comcast) their boxes that are older than the last six months do not usually work with the HDMI connection. Sometimes they pass the video, like youre saying, but since their HDMI software is not configured for repeating devices like a receiver, it just shuts down and doesnt work at all.

see, it worked fine for about a week, everything proceeding the way it would be expected. Then from Friday to Saturday, the audio blinked out the way I described. Now, as of this morning, the receiver won't stay powered on. Power on, 5 sec, receiver shuts off

Obviously that's not good. How long have you had the 605? Still under warranty, I assume (unless you bought a refurb)?

First, I would disconnect everything from the 605 and then see if it continues to power-off on it's own. If it works fine, then something in your connections is causing the problem (can't imagine what that would be, possibly speaker wire touching multiple terminals ). Start connecting things one at a time to find the problem. If it still shuts off on it's own with everthing disconnected, it's time to contact Onkyo for service.

Good luck, and let us know how things turn out.

Receiver delivered 9/11, connected 9/20. One week in operation. 1 yr manufacturer's warranty.

Yeah, it's either doing that because of heat (5 seconds? unlikely) or an electrical problem of some sort. I agree with the above post- try it out by itself and if it still does it get it fixed.
