Default Marantz 6100 Turntable Found... Confusion Ensues

Being kind of sick of poorly mixed cds and lowbitrate mp3s, I decided to look for a better way to enjoy music. When my mom told me that she had an old turntable and lots of old records in the storeroom in was intrigued.

So after taking it out, hooking it up to the reciever and plugging her in... I can't figure out how to make it play. My mom says there isn't an "on" or "go" button that she remembers, you just put the needle on the record and it starts. Long story short, no dice....

The poor thing's in storage a long time, it's probably broken (though Mom says it was working fine before it was packed up). There seem to be a lot of audiophiles on these boards, so I figured I'd ask here first. Does anyone have an idea of what may be wrong, and is it something I could fix myself or would I have to take it in to someone? Which brings up another good question. Does anyone even work on these things anymore....?
