Panny Plasma, native h.264 support? benefits? - Blu-ray Forum

I was on amazon, and they had all the panny's in a data table. I noticed the 46in and up had a support for H.264 codec... my PS3 already supports/decodes H.264 codec, so what benefit would I have if the TV itself supports this?

Streaming content. Lots of displays have an ethernet port for streaming directly to the display from a media center connected to a LAN. If you have something else doing the decodes then your are buying a feature that you won't be using.

the 850 does, yes. its called IPTV

thanks. looks like i need to do some homework on IPTV. does it just use the ethernet as a video input on the video input menu? I wonder how it determines the source and what network protocol it uses (e.g. SMB)

It can support the content from an SD card right out of your camcorder.
