It was like the gates of Heaven had opened up and a chorus of Angels were singing just for me.

When I first had my system all hooked up and ready to go, I put in Apocalypto and sat back to watch it. I was thinking, ok, this sounds pretty good...then about 20 minutes into it I remembered you could change the audio settings on the ps3 pop-up menu...so I grabbed the controller and switched it to LPCM...and BOOM the sound was much louder and fuller, the trees were rustling in the surround speakers, and the music had way more bass. That's when I realized lossless audio could be just as integral to the hi-def experience as the video.

When I first heard the uncompressed PCM on Casino Royale, it was like the sound that I had been missing since my old LD days had returned. Detailed highs, cleaner dialog, fuller bass... what is old is new again.

Lossless audio is a must have and thankfully all the major except one have adopted it. Until that major provides it consistently, I continue to support more product from the other majors.

I was watching 2001 (My first title) and I didn't realize that, even when Warners BDs have lossless sound, the disc still defaults to the Dolby Digital. When I realized this, I switched over to PCM.

Holy freaking crap.

I did not expect the difference to be this noticeable. Palpably superior dynamic range and detail. Wow.
