I got inspired by The Ass Man's food thread yesterday, so, what is your favorite pizza joint?
Although I enjoy Papa John's, local places get my vote. My favorite is a place called Oregano's in Arizona. They make a mean thin crust and also have a good deep dish. When I lived in Michigan, I loved Buddy's and Buschemi's. Last edited by Go Blue; 11-07-2008 at 06:58 PM. |

Out of the 3 stated I have lived in (MI, CA, AZ) I would say CA had the worst pizza options by far. Thankfully they have some awesome IPA's. |

My favorite local place closed after the owner died a couple of years ago. I loved that place. The food was great and they even had a Galaga machine. The owner was a very nice man and I miss him too.
I've been getting Papa Johns since the local place closed. It'd be nice if someone would open another non-chain pizza place in town. I've been to San Francisco several times and there's a great local place called Dino's. It may be the best pizza place I've ever been to. By the way, their pizza isn't that terrible "California" style. I'd say it's probably NY style. |

In Denver, there are two places that sell awesome pizza. The first one is Big Bill's. New York Style pizza and the stuff is fantastic. It helps when the owner hails from NY.
The other is Anthony's Pizza and Pasta. This stuff is great too. These guys come from NY as well, and their thin crust pizza is fantastic. The dine-in experience is great cause they serve 18' pies at the table. They also deliver. Since I moved to Redmond, WA, the best pizza I have been able to find is Pagliacci's. Great pizza, though a little pricy. |

Just ate in Falmouth MA and there's a place called STEVE's PIZZA - very, very good. This coming from a NEW YAWKER who is hard to please. Sausage cut round like pepperoni. Lving in San Diego I have two choices: Ciro's in the GASLAMp or BRONX Pizza in HILLCREST. Now dats sum goo peeza!

I have a guilty pleasure...I'm ashamed to even say it...ok, here it goes...Papa Gino's
there, I said it...chain pizza that isn't that bad Good pizza is hard to find...Greek pizza places have too much oil on thier crispy crust that is coated in coarse meal (think english muffin tops) to slide it on and off the piel (and the pizzas are generally smaller in size) Nice Italian pizza places generally use a water/flour dough and have thinner crusts...they use flour to slide their pizzas around. We have this place in Wilmington, DE in an area called Trolley Square...Ciao pizza. There is a chain of stores called Ciao but this one is independent of the others. The owner is a great guy, sports fan and classic rock lover...and he is from Italy (Naples I think). Eating in is never an issue (reminds me of a 50's/60's style counter sandwich shop with a few tables), they always have a huge variety of slices and their pizza is top notch (he tells me his secret is sweet basil, not oregano like other places). Plus, they make good cheesesteaks, a must in the Philly area. In Philly, I grew up on Santucci's sicilian style, sauce on top pizza. It was pricey but it was sooo good. |

There’s a little mom & pop place up the road from me. They make something they call “Garlic pizza fries” which is dough covered with garlic & olive oil, then cheese. They slice it into strips & give you a side of sauce for dipping. Great stuff. They also make a deep dish that’s the bomb.
![]() BTW – cheddar cheese has NO PLACE being on a pizza ![]() |

Jersey pizza places tend to be generous with the slice size...it's that jumbo NY style pie with the huge slices
Pizza hut sized slices are a joke Costco pizza slices are huge like that too-gotta love a place where you can shop in bulk and then take home a hot pizza at the same time! |
