Default The Food of the Gods / Frogs (1972-1976)

Frogs / H.G. Wells' The Food of the Gods Blu-ray PRE-ORDER

*NEW TITLE ANNOUNCEMENTS**

Happy Monday! Our month-long "Shocktober" celebration and countdown to Halloween continues with two more films to reveal: We are pairing 1972’s swampy FROGS (starring Sam Elliott) and 1976’s giant animal-ridden FOOD OF THE GODS (starring Pamela Franklin) together on the Blu-ray format as a double-feature! Expect to see the release emerge next Summer.

We still have more films to announce this month so be sure to check back here on our page this month to be the first to see them!

More fun shlock heading our way!

Wish Gods was paired with Empire of the Ants and Frogs was stand-alone. Same with Vampire's Kiss and High Spirits (which probably should have been paired with Haunted Honeymoon).

I saw Tentacles at my local drive in when they held a film festival back in 2010. Cheesy as hell. But, I dug it. It played right after a 35mm print of Jaws.

Now all we need is SIDEWINDER ONE, WHEN YOU COMIN BACK, RED RYDER and PRAY FOR THE WILDCATS to go with STARCRASH. That and someone to create a custom thick cardstock box for all the movies to fit in.

There's a possibility this one is coming from Scorpion via Kino

I've only seen FROGS once and I wasn't crazy about it, but years later when I saw it for 99 cents shipped at Hastings, I went for it. Even so, I wondered why I bought it as I didn't know if I'd watch it again anytime soon. I just didn't think it was very good. Then when I saw it came out on BLU I suddenly had to have it and couldn't imagine my collection without it. Now I'm searching for a deal on it.

How does this happen?

Because, deep down inside, Frogs is really a seriously awesome movie.

It happens because that amazing poster artwork will grab the 8-year-old boy in you every time!

American International hired some of the best artists to make their posters, and when you look at all of the AIP artwork, each movie looks amazing. Their posters and newspaper ads really sold their movies.

Frogs has always been a bit of an oddity to me. Is the title supposed to be ironic? I don't think any of the characters are actually killed by frogs, and the so-called "frogs" are mostly toads.

Also, what happened to Bella and the two servants? All of the black characters just sort of disappear, as though they were written out of the movie part way through. I've always been a bit disappointed by that, as Judy Pace's Bella is a way more interesting character than Joan Van Ark's final girl Karen.

Riffing aside, really fun disc from Scream Factory. Enjoyed the interviews, Belinda Balaski's story about Ida Lupino's departure from the picture was a riot.

Even though Empire Of The Ants was my favorite of these four creature features Scream Factory released, I'd say the Food Of The Gods / Frogs Double Feature is probably the better value. But buy them both, all four movies are great additions to any cult movie fan's collection.
