Default Subwoofer Cable Question

So I'm at work right now and I have a customer who wants to run 10-12 meters of sub cable through the wall and has chosen Monster for the sub cable because of the shielding, as it is running up through the wall, along the supports in the roof, and back down the wall (he's an electrician and he's doing his own install) and basically Monster only makes up to an 8m sub cable and the standard sub cables he's used before (monoprice and the like) don't have enough shielding for him... so basically I'm wondering if he were to couple an 8m and a 2 or 4m together in the wall, is there any kind of coupler that would be CL2 rated, as well as secure enough to guarantee it will stay together in the wall?

They'll give him whatever size he wants.

There are companies that will make custom lengths of subwoofer cables. I am not sure if Monster will however.

I already reccommended BJC actually... he said he'd rather buy it through us (basically because he's buying a complete speaker package and receiver and TV so he wants to just pick it all up here, so if he needs anything changed or exchanged he doesnt have to wait)

How long is the run in teh wall? He could use wall plates with a cable from the receiver to the wall, one in the wall, and one from the wall to the subwoofer. This might enable him to use shorter cables.

that's actually what he is doing... he said the minimum run is 10m if he installs it that way, 12m if he doesnt do a wall plate on the sub end.

I've found a couple, but they don't appear to be cost-effective upwards of $150. Perhaps he could just use another wall plate in side the wall attached to a stud or nothing at all. If he is anygood he might be able to take the plate apart and use that connector.

I'm wondering if it would work to just use a standard RCA coupler and then use heat shrink tubing to seal it all together?

you could always test it with a couple of cheap cables.

Even if it works, it would not be the optimum way of making a cable.

well unfortunately he's made it quite clear that, as he is spending well over $10k on a system, he is not willing to "cheap out" on cables... so i'll have to email the guys at monster and ask them kindly to make him a 10m cable

well i'm not too worried about this route if the coupler is not going to introduce a point for interference... i guess i'll just order some heat shrink tubing if monster won't do a custom cable for a reasonable price and try it this way... at the most we'll lose a bit of time.

I know that many here a Blu-ray.com would argue that point. But, ultimately a better cable may be a good idea for someone spending that much on a system.

If he doesn't want to "cheap out" he should check these guys out. They could send him cables that cost him more than his system.

3K for a one meter pair of audio cables.

well especially a sub cable, because without good shielding his $1200 subs may just hum like $200 ones.

If he is willing to wait, he could contact Dave Schulte of the Upgrade Company to get an idea of cost. I had a special subwoofer cable made up that had XLR out from my Onkyo to RCA in for my Epik Conquest. This cable was actually made and purchased to match the rest of the cabling in my system.
