Default Onkyo S9100thx + 52xbr5 + Ps3 Help

Hello,

I just recently purchased a HTIB for my PS3 and 52XBR5 and I am looking to get a little help with my setup. I am not inexperienced by any means but at the same time I think I might be doing something that is hindering me from using my system to full potential.

As mentioned earlier, I currently have a Sony 52XBR5 connected to my PS3 which has the latest update to be able to decode DTS-HD MA and Dolby TrueHD. I also just purchased a HTIB; the Onkyo HT-S9100THX (It comes with HR-R960 receiver). I am using HDMI cables for everything but I am unsure about the sound that I am getting so I have listed a few questions below that would help tremendously.

I know my receiver can also decode DTS-HD MA and Dolby TrueHD but I am not sure which rout to go.

What should my PS3 settings be for the best sound?
Should I use “Bitstream” or “Linear PCM” for the PS3 settings?

I have plenty of Blu-rays that have Uncompressed PCM tracks, DTS-HD MA and Dolby TrueHD and I wanted to know how to get that to my speakers.

I am not sure if anyone is familiar with that Onkyo HTIB or the receiver but if I can get any advice as to what to do with the receiver settings that would be great.

I set it up before and had great sound but then my sister played around with the settings and it seems like everything is a little out of place. It also does not help that I just upgraded by PS3 to 500GB and lost all my settings.

I know the receiver has the option to do audio direct from the source (PS3) but I am not certain that it would be the best option.

I apologize for such a long write up and the many questions but any help and insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much!

Set your PS3 on PCM. It can't pass on the HD codecs via Bitstream.

Ok. Have it set on Linear PCM now. And I have it set to Direct from on the reciever side. Just trying to figure out how to get it from the reciever to the speakers properly.

Thanks again.
