Default IGN Aussie Console Showdown '08: PS3 Wins

Personally, I don't believe in review companies' scores, but I know a lot of people do. This is a console games showdown between the PS3, Wii, and X360. Here are some highlights:

Quote:
Score Breakdowns in 2008
Have a look at the figures of games that scored 4.0 or lower on IGN in 2008:

22 games, or 9.95% on Xbox 360
13 games, or 7.88% on PS3
64 games, or 23.88% on Wii
Quote:
Things don't improve for the Wii as we move to the other end of the scale, either. Whether you're looking at games that scored 7.5 or higher, 8.5 or higher or 9.0 or higher, the Wii figures are embarrassing next to the PS3 and Xbox 360. Both those consoles performed well, and in terms of raw numbers they're quite close, with the Xbox 360 having more games that scored 7.5 or over before being taken over by the PS3 in the 8.5 or over category. The PS3 is still clearly ahead of the Xbox 360 in overall quality, however, and this is really born out in the percentage figures, with fully half of games reviewed on the system in 2008 rating 7.5 or higher. By the time we hit the 9.0 or higher bracket, the Wii has been whittled down to under 2%, the 360 sits on just under 5%, while the PS3 is up over 10%.

...The Overall Winner

So that's the final installment of our Console Showdown. With another victory under its belt, it's clear that the system that offered the best selection of games in 2008 was the PlayStation 3.

Not surprising, the PS3 has the best first party software by far.

Well that's what people (mostly wearing cream, green with a hint of red) keep saying, so it must obviously be true

Definitely not surprising speaking that the Xbox 360 (even the original) have more assortment of games. Which also means, they have more crappy titles.

However, it still would be better if the PS3 equivalent titles of the Xbox 360 looked better, which in most cases, they don't. But oh well, we get Blu-ray and rock solid reliability.

I don't know if "assortment" of games is the correct word. The PS3 has all the categories covered AFAIK. However, you are correct. There seems to be a LOT more shovelware going to the Wii360.

In most cases, multiplatform games have a very SLIGHT advantage for X360 in the graphics department, but there is a HUGE advantage in the 1st/2nd party titles graphically and/or audio-wise for the PS3.

It's too bad most reviewers don't take into account audio quality in their reviews.
