Default ACER Aspire 7720-6395 not playing Blu-ray movies

Hello everyone...

My friend just gave me his Acer Aspire 7720-6395... The specs are:

1GB Video
2GB RAM
Core 2 Duo 1.5GHZ CPU
Windows Vista Ultimate
Blu-Ray drive

The problem is no Blu-Ray movies will play on it.. He took it to Geek Squad and they couldnt figure it out.. Anyone have any ideas what might be preventing this from working? The booklet it came with says it is supposed to play Blu Ray movies straight out of the box. He has done nothing to the laptop but register it and go through the basic Windows setup info...

Try making sure that your drivers are up date and that you have a media player that supports blu-ray.

Default Solved

For anyone who is interested or might have the same problem.. I was reading all over the internet and seeing people having the same problem and not finding a solution.. Acer has released a patch which is like a 70MB download. It can be found on us.acer.com

The download to look for is:

Acer Arcade Deluxe v1.13.4806

I could not get a direct link so I apologize for that.. But this will fix the blu ray playback and the machine actually looks awesome once this is fixed

I have the same laptop, and mine works. I did notice the other night that Hostel 2 would not play. Im not too concern with it, since BD and computers seen to not match very well.

Can you elaborate on what exactly it does? Does it say something, or it just doesn't play them at all. Are you using Acer arcade?

Go to acer arcade deluxe
select "Play Movie"
Select "settings"
select "BD settings"
Select "region code"
Select "region B" for the UK

Important Note!:
You can only change your region !!! 5 !!!! times!
that is 5 times!
I am totally stressing this.....5 times!

You may have to do this a second time so your computer locks on to this region code.
If you watch an american blu-ray vid, on the fifth change of the region code your computer locks to this region !FOREVER!

SO I AM TOLD.

Enjoy your movie and comment on your success!

Default Help!!!!

Help! I have a Acer Aspire 7720-6395 notebook. It plays blue ray movies but lately, new bluray films, like the new bond flick, dont play. It keeps saying " A critical update is required otherwise your bd player will not work, would you like to search the net for the update" and I click on yes and it simply says new update not found. I triude the acer deluxe 1.13 update to no luck. Please tell me where I can go to get this fixed? Where can I get the pacth or update to allow me to see newly released blueray films?

I use an acer laptop with no problems so far (witrh regards to blu ray playback). Just make sure that you keep acer arcade deluxe up to date. Though when you try and play a disc and it says you need a critical update click no, go back home (to the main menu), go to settings and use the update feature here. If you do this it'll work a treat.

I have the Acer Aspire 7720 and currently have Acer Arcade deluxe version 1.14.5612. I have 32 bit Vista ultimate installed on it and I get the A critical update is required otherwise your bd player will not work, would you like to search the net for the update" error message too. I have tried clicking yes and then it does nothing, I clicked no then went to home and live updates, and it says there are no updates. I went to Cyberlink's site (per the link on the bottom of the update page) and check to see if I was at the most recent version and it said I am. But I tried to watch G.I.Joe and Bond to no luck. Acer says computer is out of warrenty so I have to pay $60 to talk to a techie to get the update. Cyberlilnk says it is an Acer issue and they cannot help me.

Any suggestions short of chucking the drive and trying to find a new one to plug in or plopping down the cash to Cyberlink to get Power dvd?

I am having the same critical update error message that won't update!! However, when I go to settings all I see is audio, video and BD, none of which have the update feature. When I go to the home menu there is just a list of programs.. play movie, etc. But nothing like properties or settings or updates. How do I do this? I would really like to watch my movie!

EDIT: I found the update feature in the "About" menu (when you go to the home menu there is an icon of laptop and a question mark in the upper right hand corner, the about menu is the laptop), but it says no updates are available!! GRR!

EDIT 2: I tried updating again just in case and NOW it is letting me update from 1.13.4811 to 1.14.5118c (12.7MB). I tried watching my movie and alas, the same critical update message came up and wouldn't work. So, I went into the about menu, and tried manually updating but it said there were no updates. I tried a second time again, and it's letting me update now from 1.14.5118c to 1.14.5119 (254.4MB!). We'll see if this works..

Also, if anyone needs it, the url in the bottom of the update page is http://www.cyberlink.com/acer/update/

Some Aspire notebooks ship with a Blu-Ray optical drive and the Acer Arcade media playback software. The version of Windows Media Player that ships with the notebook does not support playing Blu-Ray movies and Acer recommends using the Acer Arcade media playback sofware to play Blu-Ray movies, but it did not recognize some blu ray discs, so i have purchased a lifetime UFUSoft blu-ray player software for reading them.
