Default Will there be Blu-ray players available first?

Since Toshiba already announced that they will released their first HD-DVD players, I wonder if there will be a Sony Blu-ray players available? I have yet heard that there will be Blu-ray players available but only recorders. In order for the Blu-ray to go successfully, I think Sony should market their first Blu-ray player for $999.99, like what Toshiba is doing, and released it out at the same time, along with Toshiba HD-DVD together. Any ideas on the release of Blu-ray players?

The PS3 will be a Blu-Ray player only, (as well as next gen console). £300-350 ish in price. Pretty good budget option for early BR playback.

I was tempted to reply with something sarcy but won't. Of course I realise the PS3 will be next gen hardware first and foremost. Have been playing computer/console games for over 20 years now. The point I was making, was that if you were looking for a cheap BR player you could consider the PS3 a £300 player with the added benefit of it being next gen console hardware as well. i.e. you could just use it as a cheap player and nothing else. Funnily enough a mate of mine got bought a PS2 by his girlfriend but isn't really into games apart from the odd match on PES3. He uses his PS2 almost exclusively as a dvd player. Really should have got a dvd player instead of a PS2.

If Blu-ray players or recorders come out fast and the whole mass prod happens then by the time the ps3 comes out theres a possibility that most game will have the standard price of 49.99. because if they were to come out right now they would be around 80.00 what yall think?

The cost of manufacturing BR discs is only marginally more expensive than dvd. Especially as the single sided 25GB discs wil be easily big enough for PS3 games, (most XBox games only use single sided sided 4.7GB dvds). The main cost involved is the initial plant costs. Sony would absorb these costs knowing that over the PS3's life cylce 5-10 years the 10's of million of discs manufactured on the equipment would easily cover the initial fixed cost. Games would therefore be no more than £50 even if released today.
