Default Gidget: The Complete Series - 28 May 2025 - Imprint Television #20

Quote:
SURF’S UP WITH GIDGET IN HIGH-DEFINITION!

One of the most memorable TV series of the 60s surfs onto Blu-ray for the first time worldwide!

Starring acclaimed Oscar-winning actress Sally Field in one of her earliest screen roles as Francine Elizabeth “Gidget” Lawrence, an irrepressible Southern California teenager who loves to surf and longs for romance.

Don Porter stars as her father Russell Lawrence, guiding Gidget through the ups and downs of her teenage life, filled with sand, surf, fun, and plenty of boys.

Based on the book by author Frederick Kohner (inspired by the real-life adventures of his own teenage daughter), the Gidget character first took to the big screen in the 1959 movie Gidget and its two sequels, before this 60s series brought her to the small screen.

Featuring guest performances from acting greats including Barbara Hershey, Richard Dreyfuss, and Michael York, head back to the carefree beachside of Malibu with the original surfer girl, Gidget.

Very exciting and unexpected release! Crossing my fingers that they also do The Flying Nun, which only ever had 2 out of 3 seasons released on DVD.

I Dream of Jeannie complete set and Bewitched seasons 1 and 2 are region free. I believe all Imprint sets are region free but hopefully someone will confirm. I'm thinking about bundling this with Bewitched seasons 3 and 4. Fun fact: there is an episode of Gidget, not sure the name, that has the original Bewitched Samantha doll in her red glittery velvet dress on top of a dresser in her bedroom. I know both shows were a Screen Gems production shown on ABC hence the tie-in.

Re The Flying Nun: YES! I'd love that, too.

I have no info as to why this third classic Screen Gems' sitcom has been "chosen" by Imprint to (finally) release on Blu-ray home media, but I say bring 'em all on!!

So many of my childhood favorites were produced by Screen Gems, the TV arm of Columbia Pictures, and especially given the recent destruction/razing of the (WB) Burbank Ranch, which housed all the iconic homes (facades) of all these favorites, it would be most exciting and appreciated that, hopefully, these sell well enough to encourage more sets to be produced/released for more SG shows like (in order of preference):
1. The Partridge Family (SG/ABC-TV 1970-1974)
2. The Flying Nun (SG/ABC-TV 1967-1970)
3. Hazel (SG/NBC 1961-1965; CBS 1965-66)
4. The Donna Reed Show (SG/ABC 1958-1966)
5. Father Knows Best (SG/CBS 1954–1955; 1958–1960; NBC (1955–1958)
6. Dennis the Menace (SG/CBS 1959-1963)
7. The Girl With Something Extra (SG/NBC 1973-1974)
8. Bridget Loves Birney (SG/CBS 1972-1973)
9. Here Comes the Brides (SG/ABC 1968-1970)
10. The Paul Lynde Show (SG/ABC 1972-1973)

The likelihood of most of these titles ever coming out on Blu is slim to none...but then that's why it's called a "Wish List"!!

The HD restoration of the Gidget TV series first showed up on Amazon Prime in 2018 and it's gorgeous. It occasionally shows up on the free streaming services. Sony doesn't sell the TV series digitally in HD so it's great we are finally able to buy it in HD.

Gidget Grows Up, Gidget Gets Married, and Gidget's Summer Reunion also showed on Amazon Prime at the same time. Only Gidget Gets Married was in HD and it was later included in Via Vision's Gidget Film Collection blu-ray set.

With Gidget Grows Up being included as an extra in this set (in SD, same as it was on Amazon Prime), that just leaves The New Gidget TV series and the TV movie that preceded it (Gidget's Summer Reunion) which both starred Caryn Richman as Gidget.

It would be great if Via Vision could license The New Gidget and Gidget's Summer Reunion from Sony and release them on NTSC DVDs. Yes, they would have to use ancient SD masters but The New Gidget is very rare and has only shown up on in entirely once and that was on the free CTV streaming service in Canada in 2020. Sony has put a five episodes from it on their Classic TV Rewind YouTube channel:

The Flying Nun has been restored in HD by Sony so there's a pretty good chance that it will be a future release. Off the top of my head, I know Sony has also restored the following in HD: The Partridge Family, Hart To Hart, and T. J. Hooker.

On a whim, I picked-up the DVD set whenever it came out way-back-when (my wife humored me and we watched it together... and I loved it more than I did when i was a kid... and my wife REALLY loved it.

I see it's already sold out at:

Did any of you folks receive it yet? Where's you get it?

I need to get a list of all the place you folks buy from. Maybe there should be a Thread just about that?

I buy from Amazon because it's easy... but I hate Bezos with a passion.

FWIW - I buy Imprint mainly from JB Hi-Fi, or from ViaVision directly. There is also Orbitdvd, Rarewaves, Diabolikdvd, and I think Limelight sometimes carry them.

Is Gidget really already OOP?

I have no idea. I've been to a few places in the last day or so, and a few places said "Sold Out." One said "Pre-Order..." so... I'm confused.

You can get it from JB hi-for for the same price, and only $20 USD to ship to the US. That adds up to $85 USD total, and you will get the GST back.

Though I would wait for a sale, unless you are really concerned it will go OOP until the next one (which I think may be next month?)

I went to JBHiFi and it's $99... and they won't give me a shipping price unless I give them a credit card... sigh...

That is in AUD. That is $65 USD. I am in the US and they showed $30 AUD S&H which equals $20 USD. $65 + $20= $85.
Not sure what else to tell you.

Gidget was only just released in Australia. It has not sold out yet. Based on what I saw with the Bewitched S1 & S2 set, places like Orbit and Atomic have "sold out" of their pre-order allotment and will most likely get more in a few weeks. With Bewitched, I checked Orbit's site every day, and eventually it was listed as in stock again (then it eventually went out of stock again).

Other places have the set in stock right now. On Amazon, a seller from New Zealand has the set available to ship to the US for $69.90 + $6.99 shipping. Amazon itself might get some sets in stock in the near future, and other sellers will probably appear.

Deep Discount has the set available to buy right now for $89.89 ($80.90 with their current 10% coupon code, though they usually have a 15% code on a regular basis).

I have ordered Imprint sets in the past from the eBay seller "pop.market" -- that seller does not list titles until they are in stock. Gidget has a US release date of June 6, so "pop.market" could have it listed this weekend. Based on their pricing scheme, they tend to have Imprint items listed with a 25-30% discount on the US list price. Deep Discount has Gidget with a US list price of $99.99, so "pop.market" could have the set for $70-75 (that's what I'm hoping/waiting for).

Thanx for all the Info!!! I REALLY appreciate it. I just found your boy in Kewi-Land and grabbed it.

I looked around the Inter-tubes for a few days and found mostly diddly... You made it so much simpler for me<
