I believe I read that both Blu-ray & HD-DVD will be 1080p - and God bless 'em both because interlaced sucks!!

How many tvs can currently display a 1920 by 1080p picture though? without downscaling? the only tv i know of is the Sharp 45" lcd with the necessary 1920/1080. Still, I guess tvs will gradually move to the higher res.

Default 16:9 TVs a must in the future

Right now I have a Digital TV DCR- 29" Sony, 1250 lines. Will the new technology i.e, that is HD will look good on our TV or I should go for the Lcd panel TV (16:9) to have optimum resolution.

Hi Ash,

You may have to down convert the 1080P signal to what ever the highest res is for your set (1080i?)

LCD is by far not the be all or end all of HD displays. The 1080P format is just starting to bloom. Sony has something called the Qualia 006 that is 1080P. Problem is at this point you can feed it a 1080P signal. So by the time Blu-ray and HD-DVD are out you will have several different options of display technology to pick from.
