Default Official Vendors?

Just a thought, on another site I goto for cars, their forums offer advertising packages for official vendors. This allows people who want to to setup shop on the forum at their expense. They can also setup group buys and gauge interest in what products people want and such.

Thoughts?

The site is totally supported by the Amazon link and we encourage you to buy BDs at Amazon, but that's as far as the developers here have taken it.

The danger in setting up actual sponsors is like what happens over at AVS and other sites where the vendors and corporate sponsors actually have a say in what people can post there. Once that happens, it's not a free environment anymore.

so in a nutshell, say Best Buy was a sponsor, they may have a problem with posting non Best Buy things and even Amazon links. The easiest wasy to promote something is through Amazon, I have done that with alot of my steelbooks and imports and it helps. Example:

Freddy vs Jason Blu-ray Canadian Import

it may have to cost more to cover fees but it helps here without directly sponsoring the site. Just like Ebay, get a premium account and you can create your own listings

It could be limited to individual sellers and the people selling would have no say as to what goes on with the site, you basically just purchase the right to sell in the official vendors area. There could still be a marketplace for individuals but they would not be officially recognized as a vendor.

Say vendor a wants to advertise in the vendor area. He pays a certain monthly and gets the right to do so. You could file official greivances with the vendors in that area and the site would be part of that.

In the general marketplace, anyone can sell but there is no site backing of any individual seller it is based solely on reputation with other members.

So if a vendor paying the fee wants to do a group buy they could help out members by offering items cheaper than major outlets and at the same time it helps the site.

You could keep the major companies out of it to since you select who can be a vendor and who couldn't.
