I would take an onkyo over a pioneer, but a Pioneer Elite over an Onkyo.

1018 over anything under an 806, 01/03/92/94 over anything Onkyo owns, easily.

But then again, I'm a Pioneer fanboy as well.

Truth be told... it doesn't matter...not sure why they have to 'battle'

Pioneer Elite's are great products. I'm a big fan of Onkyo's, they make a solid product at a much less expensive price than other manufacturer's.

I have an Onkyo 706, bought it on Friday the 13th, been having issues with Dolby Digital sources/bitstreaming. Couldn't get anyone to talk to at the service center (not Onkyo's fault) If the issue isn't fixed then I planned on selling it and buying a Pioneer. this is the first Onkyo I have ever had, and unless they can fix it, then it will be my last

Pioneer Elite hands picks their components to be in their receivers. They use their best amps, best processors, best DAC's and get the best performance and best features that they can from their product. They also use their most up to date software and features in the Elites. Onkyo does something similar with their Integra line. I have listened to both the Pioneers and the Integras..I just prefer the punchiness of the Elites to the integra, although the integra is a very capable receiver. The Onkyo are a feature packed receiver that seem to be designed on budget. They give you great features, just not always the greatest quality "in my opinion". (I quoted that so it is not argued in any way other than it being my opinion). They always have good power ratings, but their sound is just okay. They never seem to be bad, but they never stand out to me.

^^^^^^
makes me feel better about my recent purchase...thanks

@sorce360: I like this thread as a measure to find out info from owners about what they like about their gear;

but the term, "battle" brings back bad memories of the whole Blu ray vs HDDVD or PS3 vs Xbox360. Nowadays it seems like the PS3 vs standalone BD players is a source of needless arguements and tensions

While done all in fun and things have not sprialled out of control, I'd leave words like battle or war out of it. otherwise you're sure to invite fanboys of each side to come and ruin your thread, which appears to be started in genuine light heartedness

I'm not a mod and hope I don't sound like I am coming down on you....just that I've seen it so many times......

I don't own either, but for the 30 days I had an 805 I was floored by it. However, I admit I've ignored Pioneer over the years since I was never really impressed with their older gear, but I finally gave one of the later model Elites a listen and to be honest between an 805 and an Elite in the same price range it'd be a toss up for me. However, IMO the Elites appear to have better build quality.

I don't know if I'd say its SERIOUSLY flawed.. every receiver has its own ups and downs and althought the 806 seems to be a step down from the 805 in terms of power, it can hold its own against other AVRs in its class. It's not a P.O.S. like many make it out to be.

... but it is!.. ( from what I've read).. Blue-dots problem ... clipping below black ... problems with the Hdmi repeater ... things like that .. weaker amp than the 805 .... etc.
