Default PS3 Hate Boils Over, Fanboy "Journalists" Embarrass The Industry

clicky

Quote:
This. This, right here. This is why gaming journalists will never get any respect.

We recently ran an article that warned readers against misinterpreting opinion as facts because apparently, only loud-mouthed fanboys get any sort of attention in the realm of so-called video game journalism. Typically, the world of gaming news continues forward in much the same way it always has; we scan around, field the press releases in our inbox, try to find interesting scoops online, etc, etc, etc. But the recent trend, which apparently began with a new rash of PS3 hate - fueled entirely by jealousy - has assaulted the Internet, and we're already feeling the negative effects. You know, when narrow-minded idiots make certain inane proclamations in an ill-advised attempt to present their opinion as fact, everyone suffers. Now, they're actually trying to prove a point with completely irrelevant statistics!

Okay, here's a concept that everyone - everyone - needs to comprehend and accept. The Xbox 360 launched one year before the PlayStation 3. It has a larger user base. Depending on the source you use, Sony has sold between 18 and 20 million PS3s and Microsoft has sold between 26 and 28 million 360s. Now, we won't bother to show the obvious closing of the gap in the past two years; we'd rather stick to the point: when there are 8-10 million more of one particular console out there, the sales numbers for the corresponding software will reflect that gap. Therefore, this isn't anything like comparing the software sales between systems with equal user bases, and that instantly alters the numbers. This is fact #1. Here's fact #2: evidently, the only argument the Xbox loyalists have left revolves around sales numbers. And they're desperately trying to cling to it like a drowning fanboy clings to the life raft that's moments away from heading over the waterfall (God, if only).

Obviously, nothing else matters. No other aspect of the system comes into play. Blu-Ray doesn't matter. A free PlayStation Network doesn't matter. PlayStation Home doesn't matter. Faaaar better reliability doesn't matter. Hell, even the games don't matter. Has anyone been able to locate an equally retarded anti-PS3, pro-360 article that even mentions games? Hell, and here I was thinking that this industry is all about the damn games. According to just about every last major publication on earth, the best games of 2008 were MGS4, GTAIV, Gears of War 2, LittleBigPlanet, Left 4 Dead, Fallout 3, Resistance 2, Fable II, Valkyria Chronicles, Dead Space, and Devil May Cry 4. Sure, it's subjective, but I doubt most normal, unbiased gamers will disagree with that list. I see four PS3 exclusives, three 360 exclusives, and a bunch of multiplats; none of which were superior on the 360. And looking into 2009...yeah, we all know the PS3 has a gigantic advantage. We won't list off the games again. But let's just say that most all the games everyone is talking about right now - Killzone 2, God of War III, Gran Turismo 5 - are PS3 exclusives, and the others are multiplats. Are there any 360 exclusives that are in the impending spotlight? Seriously...any at all?

But hey, why should that matter to video game journalists? Why bother to use statistics that will equal out the argument? No, let's just include those that support our end of the argument, because the truth of the matter is, we're either high school or college kids pretending to be "journalists" but failing to cover up the obvious bias. Yeah, MGS4 has been "pushed" into the background. Sure, why even bother to entertain the notion that it outstrips anything on the 360? I'm not saying it does, but I guess sales are all that matter. Yeah, Prologue was just a demo so it must've sucked and GT5 might not come out until 2010...which immediately means it's not ever coming out, so who cares. LBP didn't perform so well in sales...despite selling 1.3 million copies so far (and despite a typically terrible Sony advertising campaign) and scoring higher on average than every last 360 game in 2008 with the exception of GeoW2. Blu-Ray? Yeah, who needs high-def movies and games? The Network is free but we'd rather pay for what amounts to the same service these days.

Reliability? Bah. Just because everyone you talk to says they're on their 63rd 360 doesn't mean anything! Hey, just as a final question; something to chew on here: that 8-10 million gap in user base...how many of those sold 360s are second, third, and fourth purchases from the same consumer because their previous console crapped out? I know warranties and the like will take care of some of them, but they can't possibly take care of all of them. Anyway, we apologize for the rant, but we're getting sick and tired of the irresponsible, horrendously biased, and completely unprofessional "articles" that we're seeing online.

You know, this is the reason why I'm oftentimes embarrassed to say I'm a video games reporter amongst other journalists. Because children, like the ones at Gaming Target, screw me over.

Wow..I like this guy!!

And that article he is talking about? wow...what pure udder shite that is...what a moroon...

I've read so much about the November sales figures for PS3, and sure, they weren't so hot... But what about the other 11 months? Sony slips for 1 month, and the internet explodes... Whatever.

Sure I want to see the PS3 do well, because that means more support from the devs, but I don't work for Sony. I'm not going to lose anything if is stays in 3rd place. I'm happy with it, and it's still my favorite piece of home entertainment hardware.

THAT my friends is how you own fanboys!

I personally was never a fanboy(or in my case, fangirl) to a single company(IE Nintendo, Microsoft, Sony). I go with what is best at the time. PlayStation, XBox, now PS3. The only thing I'm fangirl-ish about is great video game tech and I never settle for second best.

I couldn't even be bothered to read all of the gametarget article as my blood was getting near boiling point. I don't think I've ever read so much crap in my life.

Each day something like this appears it reinforces my hatred of the 360 and M$ in general.

This part in the reply article "Hey, just as a final question; something to chew on here: that 8-10 million gap in user base...how many of those sold 360s are second, third, and fourth purchases from the same consumer because their previous console crapped out?". This would apply to me, unfortunately

I applaud the reply article as it read like it was written by somebody with at least a bit of intelligence.

PS3 forever

(well until the PS4 comes out anyway )

Wow...this is two steps away from the old "My Dad could beat up your Dad" argument from the playground.

I like the article copied to this post. I clicked on the link and read the other dude's article and I think he's....um....off....on a couple of things.

1) Deep library??? I am a Wii owner and I am here to tell you that the Wii's library consists of a HANDful of fun and punchy titles backed up by a good history and a legacy of proper formula, but those titles (Pokemon battle revolutiion, Animal Crossing, Mario Kart, Zelda, Metroid...) are nothing new.
The rest of the titles are either gimmicks or crap.

Also....just as an aside. Videogame systems were always the ONE thing we could count on growing up. Computers broke down, pocket games didn't work sometimes and tape decks were a DRAAAAAAAG. Other than having to blow into your Nintendo game once in a while, you could always count on gaming in at least 5 or 6 minutes. The fact that a large percentile of XBOX 360 owners have to live in paranoid fear of their VIDEOGAME system crashing is just sad and unholy. Quite Frankly, it is UnAmerican and places a black mark on our great history as producers and manufacturers and designers. Microsoft has yet another thing to be ashamed of in my book.
2) Ps3 titles don't make the who's who list (or whatever top 10 he was talking about) Who gives a crap??? Why not just join the crowd, line up, shave your head and get your custom swastika tatoo now. I can't wait to get into Bioshock...oh...wait wait...its not on the list....let me pass that up!?!? Um....no.

People just talk too much crap on the net.

Hey look...when I can find someone who hasn't honestly sent in their Xbox 360 for repairs, I can't wait to buy one. Until then, I have just loved the PS3 from day one. Totally class A experience from the packaging, to the packing job, to the connections, to playing alone WITHOUT the network, to updating software and firmware, right on up to joining the network and alllllllll that.

Plus, any system that offers a game (PAIN) in which you can just get loaded and launch DAVID FREAKIN HASSELHOFF into traffic all night has a really good attitude in my book.

I'm sure the guy will get mocked as a sony fanboy or puppet, but he was pretty fair in his assessment I think. Heck he knocked Sony advertising and commented that clearly not all of the gap were out of warranty RROD, but it makes you wonder just how many are (or how many were purchased out of ignorance of they warranty coverage).

I'll have to read the original article tonight - won't be able to get to it at work.

a good friend of mine bought a PS3 last week. i don't know if it came with a game, but he bought lego batman i think. i gave him resistance and the next morning he e-mailed me, and i quote, "dude, resistance is awesome. i am so hooked. i didn't know the PS3 had games like this. are there any more like this? what else do you got?"
that is the epitome of misinformation. the PS3 will eventually shake off it's stigma...it just takes some time to convince the masses.

I said it in a previous thread that someone needs to do a direct correlation of specific years sales in each consoles life. First year of 360 vs 1st of the PS3. That would be great to see.

You should all know i am a Tru Blu PS3 fan. Love it and what it has/can do....

Just FYI.
I bought one 360 within the first 6 months of release and it was great, right up until I decided to get the kids an Elite 360, and both have never RROD'd, or anything for that matter.

I sold the first one a little while ago to an ebayer. He got it and said it was great.

Don't go half cocked on me for saying that. I just thought I would mention it.

I have 2 PS3's and neither have ever had a problem, and are our console of choice .

I was just sayin is all

...Now ask me how my experience with the HD-Dud add-on for the 360 was. Maaaaannn, what a nightmare. I actually punched it one day (because I was so mad at MS telephone support), and that actually fixed my issue. Never had a problem since then, although I dont think i used it more than twice since that day.

P.S. To be fair, the 360 RROD days are a thing of the past, the new stuff is just fine. Standard failure rates like any electronics at this stage.

The RROD may be gone from new systems, but I still see them come in all the time at work that. Some poor kid even had his scratch 2 games, and one of them was COd W@W.

From what I've read, it didn't fix the problem completely. It dropped from 33% failure rate to 17%. Is that not right?

It's pretty rediculous to believe that the PS3 will just up and die. I don't see it happening. Perhaps some of these perceptions are caused by comparing the PS3 to the dynamo that was the PS2. The PS3 is doing well...... but there is no possible way that it will end up with the 80% market share that the PS2 did last gen. Perhaps some people see this inevitable loss of market share as a failure on the part of Sony.
