ok so i have decided to buy this reciever at the end of the month for use with my new PS3, i have this HDMI cable at 3m to run from the reciever to the tv:

http://www.hificables.co.uk/ProductD...e-cbd5f929f45e

should i buy the exact same cable at 0.5m to run from the PS3 to the reciever?

what HDMI cables do you use/recommend? i'll need a new one for my Denon 1930 aswell

I would go to monoprice.com for my HDMI cables. Get some 22 AWG HDMI cables or better. The prices are VERY reasonable and they do 3 day shipping or better. Enjoy the new receiver!

I have used monoprice.com many times in the past. Their products have worked very well for me (hdmi cables, speaker wire, optical cables, etc.) and they are reasonably priced. Don't waste your money on Monster products.

Don't you hate when they don't reply to their own thread after you answer the questions they asked?

wow, sorry about the wait... i have been busy packing my things as i've just bought my first house and move in two weeks.

Thankyou all for the replies! i'm still wondering if i should use the switching feature or not and run the PS3 straight to the TV and use a optical cable to the reciever as i don't think it decodes audio through the HDMI...annoying, but if i did this how would i see the reciever menus and everything surely i must have to run a HDMI cable from it anyway(for the set-up etc)? in which case i may as well use the switching and run my DVD and PS3 through it?

gah i dunno, i'm new to surround sound setups!

i found the reciever for £630 delivered though...score!

The 5200ES will definitely solve those issues, but you might want to wait for a receiver that has HDMI 1.3 (so you can decode all the audio codecs inside your receiver). The PS3 might have the capability to decode DTS-HD Master Audio added in the future, but it's not written in stone. HDMI 1.3 in receivers are being announced for release now, so you might as well wait (if you can).

I would probably go with the optical connection for now. IMO, 5.1 trumps 2 channel PCM from the TV speakers. That would mean you could run the HDMI from the PS3 to the TV and run a optical cable from the PS3 to your receiver. Then, tell the PS3 to use the optical output for audio. The doen side is having to switch inputs on your TV remote when you want to watch a BD.

BTW, that is a sweet price you found on that 5200ES!

yeah i kinda wish sony would announce a new reciever range with HDMI 1.3...i guess it can't be too far away as they have released info about the new LCD ranges. If nothing comes up in the next 2 weeks then i'll go for the 5200ES and optical set-up

thanks!
