Is this Region B only or Region-free? This has always been one of my favourite movies.

We need all the David Lynch movies. Good to see this. Hopefully that will mean a release in North America sometime soon.

OK, I did find some specs, but I am not 100% sure how the quality will be since this is not a Paramount release, but it is a digibook with DTS MA. Here are the specs. I was hoping for a commentary but there isn't one listed for this release.

If anyone in the UK gets this, please let us know how you like the release (transfer, packaging, ect) since it's releasing in 6 days from the date of this post:

I don't think Lynch will ever do a commentary... He never liked the DVD or home movie formats (I read somewhere that he prefer that you see his movies in the theatre), so I guess a commentary is asking way too much.

Thanks Demoni, I wondered why there wasn't any commentary on there. Too bad they didn't get the other artists that worked in front of or behind the cameras though.

It's too bad about Lynch feeling that way, I think commentary on his films would be fascinating. Considering we have films in high-def with gorgeous transfers with soundtracks identical to the studio masters and bigger screens in homes, it's too bad Lynch doesn't change his mind....some home video presentations on Blu-ray are now better than they were in the theater for these catalog titles. Theater prints got worn and scratched, many theaters had out of phase and poor sound systems, and other problems.

It's not just that, he prefers the viewer to draw their own conclusions.

That makes more sense. Spielberg must feel the same way, I don't know of any commentary he has done.

You're welcome.

My guess is that Lynch feels his movies are more fitted in a theatre. Not only because of the quality, but the whole atmosphere... No matter how good a home theatre you get it will never be like in an actual theatre.

Another reason why Lynch doesn't do commentaries (once again I'm only guessing here) may be because he don't want to explain his movies. Lynch has always been very mysterious about the story in his movies, and he want the audience to make up their own mind of what's going on (this being one of the many reasons why I love his movies so much...).

But I agree; they could at least get someone else from the crew to do a commentary. But maybe Lynch has said no altogether...?

I'll happily spend the rest of my life figuring them out if they will just give us all his films on blu

Mulholland Dr. would be top of my list, but I no longer own The Elephant Man on any format so I'll grab it as soon as possible.

Everything by Lynch on Blu-ray NOW!!! My all time favorite movie is Eraserhead. Probably not the first (or the second, or the third, or...) movie they will release on Blu-ray, but Mulholland Drive and Blue Velvet should be prioritized!!

Studio Canal actually have the euro rights to Mulholland Dr.
So, like Elephant Man, a good version (with unique extras) may come from them first...

That's good news, I have not seen but only parts of The Elephant Man on television, but I really wanted to see the whole movie. Glad it's in 2.35:1 (I have a new 2.35:1 CIH 12 foot wide set up, not complete, but still). One question however, how do you import movies, I live in the U.S.

heres the link for JB HI FI, apparantly they have sold out...
http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/dvd/d...clusive/446525

or try www.ezydvd.com, little more expensive than JB, or try www.amazon.co.uk, postage is cheaper as it's closer to the U.S.

Will note the blu-ray sits in a small plastic tray, not a slip case as pitcured, still presented as a digibook and they look nice.
