Exclamation help...no sound from receiver

just hooked up a 5.0 polk setup to the pioneer 1018 receiver. i dont want to run the auto mcac just yet because it says it contains loud tones and i dont want to damage my new speakers

so is there any way to just "plug and play"?

the ps3 is connected to the receiver and the receiver to the tv all by hdmi.
the video shows but the display on the receiver reads "hdmi through" and the sound comes from my tv and not the speakers

the display doesnt even say "PCM" anywhere even tho the source im listening to is 3:10 to yuma

please help

Check PS3 audio settings, make sure all codecs are checked for dolby, dts etc. Assign input on Pioneer for hdmi audio multi-channel pcm, not pass thru. Set surround to auto. Run the MCACC, it won't hurt your speakers, otherwise you'll have to manually have to put speaker sizes, distances, levels etc. in. Best of luck.

Check ps3 audio settings to make sure all codecs for dolby, dts etc. are checked off for hdmi. Assign input on pioneer for hdmi audio, multi-channel pcm, not pass thru. Set surround mode to auto, run mcacc, it won't hurt speakers if they are connected correctly. Otherwise do the speaker setup manually. Best of luck.

alright i gave in and did the mcacc...the speakers work

one problem: in order to get the surrounds working the receiver makes me select a "surround sound mode" like dolby pro logic IIx, neo:6 cinema etc or an advanced one like action, drama etc. and this is what is shown on my display with "pcm" in little writing on top

i selected the hd codec through the set up menu but is it playing the hd codec? (im not sure if it is because the large writing on the receiver is the surround mode with pcm writtien above in little letters)

why do i have to choose one of those modes?

Is there a direct setting or button? You checked the settings on the ps3 right? When you hit the display button on ps3 remote, what audio codec does it show, Dolby True HD? If so, just use advanced modes, action etc. if no direct setting to bypass dsp modes.
