Robert Rodriguez Directing Futuristic Nerverackers Next

Sorry guys, no Sin City 2 just yet. Variety has confirmed that the next project from Robert Rodriguez will be a futuristic thriller called Nerverackers. Set in 2085, the story centers on a character named Joe Tezca who is part of an elite unit dispatched to put an end to a crime wave in a theoretically perfect future society. I'm sure there's a lot more to it than just that, but let me be the first to say that I'm very excited to see Rodriguez take on this project, because I'm tired of hearing about his newest kids flick Shorts. Rodriguez will both written and direct Nerverackers for Dimension, the same studio he's been with for ages.

Not much else is known about Nerverackers besides what we've mentioned, but it should be exciting to see it come together. This does confirm that at least until 2010, Rodriguez won't be directing Sin City 2, a Machete spin-off, a Predator reboot, or anything else that has been floating around in the rumor mill. The worst part of this is that he's still working with the Weinsteins. Rodriguez really needs to find a new distributor, because they're going to keep mishandling his films until he finds someone else. Hopefully that doesn't happen with this. The Weinstein Company has already set an April 16th, 2010 release date.

It was only yesterday that the news first hit about Robert Rodriguez's Nerveracker, the futuristic thriller that he's set to direct next. The updated details come from an official press release sent out by The Weinstein Company, which means we don't have to sift through regurgitated news. First things first, the project is actually titled just Nerveracker, without the plural "s" as originally listed. "This is one of those projects that we dreamed about making for years, and now the timing is right to finally do it," Rodriguez says. "Bob [Weinstein] has always been encouraging and shown genuine excitement for my ideas…"

"[And] that gets me pumped to make them realities." Nerveracker is set in the year 2085 and centers on the character Joe Tezca, part of an elite unit who is sent in to stop a crime wave amongst a perfect futuristic society. In the process, he discovers that "Nerverackers" are on a rampage for control of the city. Tezca consequently sets forth on a mission to reveal the cover up by the ruling class and stop the "Nerverackers" before time runs out. So what are the "Nerverackers" exactly? I guess we'll have to wait to find out, or unless Rodriguez puts out some photos sometime soon. Nerveracker is still set for release on April 16th, 2010.
