Hey guys,
What is the consensus on White Glove Shipping? I am debating pullling the trigger on the Panny TH-46PZ85U from BuyDig. $1149 total with standard shipping extra $50 for white glove. I have read around here and the other usual boards and seem to get mixed opinions. (who woulda thought?) But what gets me is some say they love it and other say its a total rip. I live in an upstairs apartment, so it would be pretty convenient. I don't really care about the "unpackage and connect" but the "make sure it works" thing is kinda cool. I also read that with white glove you also get a 4 hour window for delievery, which is a lot nicer than the "sometime today" you usually get with standard shipping. I guess I am just looking for people's thoughts and anyone's stories about their White Glove experiences. |

If the "white glove" service includes calibration...then I'd say go for it. Other than that it's just a waste of $50...(you could get 2-3 BD's with that).
John PS: Isn't the whole install it yourself thing part of the excitement? I know it is for me. |

I couldnt agree more. The putting it together myself is how I play with my toys, part of the enjoyment.

It really depends on the people who deliver it, which is out of your hands. Some feel like they're doing you a favor by bringing it up.. when in reality it is their job and you paid for it. Make sure you read the fine print as some say they will only take it up 1 or 2 flights of stairs.

"White Glove"...is merely marketing speak for inside delivery. This amounts to bringing it in, unpacking, placing on your stand, and plugging it in. I'd bet if you greet the delivery truck guys nicely, hand them a Coke and through ~$20 at them to bring it inside, they'd probably do it. But beware also that there could be company policy on NOT doing things like that, i.e., liability.

Regular shipping is to your front door. White glove takes it in. Ididnt' want to pay extar for while glove shipping. So i had a dolly to bring it in myself. But the delivery guys choose to bring the TV into my apartment on the 2nd floor knowing it was too big fo rme to do myself. I did tip them 20 dollars which they did take. Not all companies may allow this, but it was cheaper than the white glove treatment.
My TV was 60 inch and after i uncrated it, i did have an issue that it was to large and weighed 75 pounds and i didn't have help putting it on my stand. Being as impatient as I was and not wanting to wait for someone to help me I managed to grip the TV jsut right and lift it to the stand myself so i lucked out. This was a Sammy LED DLP TV so it wasn't as easy as if it had been a plasma or LCD. Personalyl i woudl skip the white glove treatment and either rely on the delivery guys and tip them or have a buddy over when it is delivered. |

White Glove was no special service for me. As in the fine print, if your tv requires to be put on a stand, the White Glove Service does not require the delivery people to set it up past this point. So they took the tv out of the box for me and just leaned it against the wall until i was able to call a friend to come help me...

My take on white glove?
If the TV is 100 pounds (as mine is) and you live on the 2nd floor (like I do), paying someone to unbox it and set it on the stand is a bargain as far as I'm concerned. But the real value of white glove is that you see it's working before you sign to manifest. With curb-side you're left with a box. If it doesn't work you have to arrange for the delivery person to come back for it. THAT is the value of white glove delivery. For all the "peace of mind" rituals and gizmos a/v geeks go through and pay for it amazes me not everyone would drop an extra $50 for white glove delivery. If you started a rumor that white glove delivery improves PQ or life span by 0.0001% you'd have some people paying $300 for it. ![]() |
