Default Robert Langdon films; Origin next?

Quote:
Tales From The Collection has learned that Tom Hanks is set to reprise his role as Robert Langdon in the upcoming film adaptation of Dan Brown’s “Origin.” Slated to begin filming in Summer 2023, this marks the fourth installment starring Hanks in the series of films based on Brown’s popular novels, with Ron Howard returning as director. The film will be produced by Brian Grazer and Dan Brown himself, under the banner of Imagine Entertainment and Columbia Pictures.

Robert Langdon films are among my favorites as they combine history/myths, adventure, mystery, travel, etc.

Much like Angels and Demons, I found Origin to be one of the books better suited to films. If made properly (this one takes place in Spain), Origin could be another fun ride (since Hank is in his 60s, we may see some changes from the book to suit his age).

Which is your favorite film in the series so far?

Waiting for a more reliable news source. Haven't heard anything about it. AFAIK, Howard is in post on his animated feature while prepping the thriller Origin of Species.

I hope it gets made. I am in for this one.

All the 3 films have their moments, but if I have to pick one, it would be Angels & Demons.

The Da Vinci Code is interesting, however now (after multiple viewings), it feels inconsistent in pace (the weaving of the past, along with clues, works relatively better in the book) esp. if viewed as a mystery thriller.

Inferno is relatively straightforward as a book and therefore works at a faster pace as a thriller. Though the ending in the book is better.

That leaves Angels & Demons, which is relatively more balanced. The Vatican segments, along with CERN's, integrate well with the treasure hunt.

Enjoyed the first 2 movies. The third one was quite poor & made little sense (especially after the 'twist'). I gave up on the TV adaptation of The Lost Symbol after four episodes because it was so poorly written.

As for Origin, I picked up the hardback in a charity shop a few years back. Someone had scrawled inside on the first page "Absolute Bobbins".

Upon finishing the book, I couldn't help but agree with the previous owner's review. The 'Big Reveal' at the end was one of the most anticlimactic 'Is That It?' moments I've ever read.

I guess a movie could only be an improvement...

Angels & Demons is the best of the three and the clear runaway winner when we bring the Extended Cut into the conversation. Shame on Sony for wiping its existence from digital retailers and making the Blus go OOP. Glad I got that two pack right sway,

I'd actually like to see this, but after the poor box office for Inferno, I can't see them greenlighting a fourth. Especially over a half decade later.

I really enjoyed the entire trilogy and would be happy to see a 4th.

I used to think The Da Vinci Code was better but in retrospect I like Angels and Demons more. I loved the way it mixed science and religion, and the score is so good. The ending of Inferno was underwhelming compared to those of the first two. I'd love it if we got another.

Well, I don't think Hanks would do it without Ron Howard, so they somehow get him to do it or it's not happening at all.

With Inferno barely scraping by (don't think it broke even theatrically) and The Lost Symbol TV series being a big dud, I don't see Sony going back to Dan Brown anytime soon.

Interestingly, Hanks did talk about (the unreleased at the time) Origin during the press for Inferno, seemingly hinting that he wasn't done with the Robert Langdon role:

Quote:
But, Dan Brown, who is very secretive, is working on another one. We have no idea if it's going to come down the pike -- if we're going to want to jump on it or not. We'll see. The good news is contractually, we don't have to. This is all our voluntary actions.

Finished watching The Lost Symbol series. Overall, it turned out to be a good time pass show. I haven't read this book and also did not keep high expectations going into the show.

[Show spoiler]The "transformation"
reminded me of that in the Bond book (not the film) Moonraker, and the tattooed tooth fairy in Red Dragon (the film).

Jeez louise, I love these movies and I just realized Origin (the book) exists. So I just started the audiobook (it's a long one!)

I would argue that the TV series was a dud because it wasn't Ron Howard and Tom Hanks!

But sadly you're probably right. The TV show was mediocre at best. It was actually low budget and amateurish at times. Very disappointing.

Given Ron Howard's clout it might just depend on whether or not he's interested enough to do it. Well, he and Tom Hanks, probably. I know they passed on The Lost Symbol because it didn't really offer a compelling enough challenge or reason to put it to film, which I kind of get, but it's a great book, so it's kind of a shame.

I'm hoping Howard and Hanks will pick it back up with Origin at some point. **crosses fingers**

Don't let the mediocre show ruin your interest in the book. The book is excellent and deserved much better.
