Default Rome (HBO Series)

I just rewatched the entire series for the first time in about 2 years and this is by far my favorite show ever. The combination of great acting with amazing sets and a decent historical accuracy make this show one that I really want on blu-ray.

I'm sure I'm not the only one and so I'm wondering.... has anyone stumbled upon a news item along the way that gives me hope that this might one day (hopefully sooner than later) make it's way to BD??

Also... for those of you who are fans... who was your favorite character on the show??

I'm lusting after this one too. I would think that with Band of Brothers out of the way and HBO's most recent dramas announced (True Blood & Generation Kill) that Rome should be next on the slate. The good news though is that if HBO isn't on the ball, I believe the BBC has the rights in Britain and may put their set out sooner.

As for the show itself, I loved the entire series and was really disappointed it ended after only 2 seasons although it wrapped things up pretty well at the end of season 2. My favorite characters were always Pullo and Mark Antony. Vorenus was always too serious for me although he became more likable in Season 2 I thought.

BTW, while looking the series up on IMDb to make sure I had all my facts straight, I saw a story that apparently the creator of the show is working on a script for a movie that would continue the story of Vorenus and Pullo and apparently HBO is interested as they regret cutting the show off after 2 seasons apparently.

Love this series and have watched my DVDs three times, great stuff. I'd love info on a BD release, too. Favorite character, easily Lucius Vorenus...

I saw the news story last month in which there is/was talk of a "Rome" movie for 2011. Sex and the City performed extremely well at the box office so that doesn't hurt although S&TC had a much larger audience.

I did read a column not too long ago in which the writers for "Rome" had initially planned to stretch the show out between 4-5 seasons. The initial plan was to save all of the Antony/Cleopatra stuff for season 3 and have season 4 somewhat tackle King Herrod and Jesus Christ. They got wind before shooting season 2 that the series was not going to come back for a season 3 hence all of the Antony/Cleopatra stuff got crammed in.

Either way, GREAT SHOW! I love Pullo but I think Antony was my favorite character. James Purefoy absolutely dominates every scene he is in at the beginning of season 2.

Yeah I read the same story. Season 2 was going to end with the death of Brutus, seasons 3 & 4 were going to be about Antony & Cleopatra and season 5 was going to focus on the rise of Jesus in Palestine/Judea. I would have loved to see that. I wonder if that is where the movie would start off considering they already breezed through Antony & Cleopatra's story.
