Default Dead PS3

Does anyone have any advice on how to get sony to fix a yellow light issue on a dead ps3 for free? i mean, considering that i payed close to $650 for it with tax, paying another $150 to get it repaired is pretty unreasonable in my opinion. i got mine in january of 2007 and it just died tonight.

i understand things dont last forever, but paying $800 for a console to work past 2 years is ridiculous. this is what i get for being an early adopter... *** ****** by sony

I'd complain maybe send some emails (don't be crazy rude, just be respectful) explain your side to them and ask what can they do besides the 150... I agree lol, systems now are falling apart our snes and nes still work like new after 21, and 18 years of owning them. I've had a rrod xbox, and a broken ps2 in like 1 year owning it and 3 owning the ps2. I just don't get it.

Any luck getting it fixed for free? My 60gig just died last night. Im positive now that 60gigs have a ~2year lifespan. My friend's 60gig died a month ago. This isnt even my original 60gig, I had to send that one in about 4mmonths after I bought it, which was dec 06.

My 60gig PS3 is still chugging along just fine. And it's been turned on and in near constant use for over 2 years.

There aren't all that many reports of dead PS3's. They're pretty robust. But no console can have zero failures. Bad luck happens.

There are quite a few reports on here of broken 60s. And mine and a friends just died. Its a lot more than bad luck.

I got a 60 gig PS3 as soon as it came out and it survived my house, it survived shipping it to Iraq via connex or train box car, it survived the whole year long deployment wich was much sandier and dustier than my last deployment, and I just shipped it back to the U.S and ill be fallowing along with it very shortly. I am very pleased with my PS3 if it does go out I may give it a proper burial as I am very satisfied with the work it has put in for me! My 360 only lasted 6 months out here so I got an elite and it started acting up as well!

its been well documented that 60gb ps3s fail the most out of all of the skus. they are the most unreliable. obviously not all will fail during the same time period, but they have a higher chance of failing. mine lasted for 2 years and 1 month before it died. everyone else in my socom clan that had a 60 gb ps3 had to get theirs replaced at least once.

Have you read any of the posts in this thread? Many people are complaining about their 60gigs breaking down.

Mine WAS going strong until about 2 weeks ago when it started turning itself off. A few days after that started, it was done for.

...with no moving parts. Any time you add moving parts into the mix, the likelihood of breakdown increases. Therein lies the difference between early generations of consoles and more recent gens.

MLK, what was the last thing you were doing on your PS3 before it died? Were you playing a game, watching a Blu-ray, streaming, folding, or what?

Ugghhhh its gonna cost me $170 canadian to get it fixed. I just hope they fix/swap it fast. My KZ2 disc is still stuck in my system as well.

Well there goes all my faith in PS3 reliability.

I got a 3 year extended warranty on my 40GB unit from Best Buy so I'm covered. I've had it a little over a year with no problems.

I was playing socom, and all of a sudden it turned off. i thought it was the game, but it was the system. second time i turned it on it played fine for about 5 minutes then tirned off again. third time gave me only enough time to get the disc back out.

I ended up just paying for the repairs. $160 w/tax.

Sony can't give us 8-10 years of reliable service (wheres the $$$ in that...?)like they used too...:-( I have the 3 60gig PS3's I use, & I hope it's not just a matter of time as in the next 6-8 months type deal. They should be prob free for 10 years , or as long as I have it

Replace Socom with Little Big Planet and this exact thing has just happened to me.

I tried resetting the system by turning off the main power switch in back and then turning it back on while holding down the front power button, but this only results in the three beeps and a flashing red power light. Is there another way to reset the unit, or is there anything else I could reasonably try before calling Sony? This is a 60gb model if that makes a difference.

If I have to call Sony, the person on the other end of the phone will not have a pleasant day and I would like to avoid making someone else unhappy unless it is absolutely necessary. I am irate because I've had this unit for just over a year and it is a refurb that I received after shelling out $160 to Sony for replacing my first PS3 which died 2 weeks out of warranty.
