As the prices of blurays fall that the enjoyment out of each one I get is less. I mean it is basic economics, but its crazy. The movies that I used to want, that I really didn't need, I don't want anymore now that they are like 10 bucks. I want the ones that are worth more. I mean I have payed a lot for a movie I really shouldn't own when the prices were so high because "it was a deal." I am sure I am not alone, but I just wanted to hear some other people's comments

I feel totally diffirent. I feel guilty for paying full price upwards of $40 for a Blu-Ray I am tired of paying full price. I have learned to wait for it to go on sale/buy used. I am happy that i learned to do this earily on with blu-rays, unlike DVD. I used to feel a high getting a movie that cost more, making me thing it's worth the price, now wehn i see blu rays' over priced or buy one that I know I can hold off untill it is on sale, I feel nothing but guilt and shame.

Say we like to eat donuts. For the first donut, the level of satisfaction we recieve is high (benefit) and the cost is low (in this case, cost can be a number of factors - price, sugar intake, weight gain, etc). For the second donut, the satisfaction we receive is marginally lower and the cost is marginally higher (but MB is still > MC). However, by the time we eat the 3rd donut, the marginal cost has caught up to our steadily decreasing satisfaction level. Now we've paid $3 for donuts when initially we set out to spend only $1. Our blood pressure is up, maybe we are wired and "on edge." Maybe we did this same thing last week and we're seeing weight gain. All of these factors tell us to stop and (for the most part) we do. We've reached the point where Marginal Benefit < Marginal Cost. As I said in my previous post, it might be reaching to apply the logic to purchasing blus. Then again, it might not. What are the costs associated with purchasing more? Do blus sit in our collection unwatched for extensive periods of time? Do we get less satisfaction out of each viewing than we would if we hadn't purchased so many and were only thinking about moving on to the next one? Are we spending more money than we should because the unit costs are lower and we can't pay other bills? Are we sacrificing sleep, other projects around the house, etc? These are all opportunity costs and must be considered. The OP may well be in the minority here with his opinion, but his theory certainly holds water. Nontheless, I will admit I too seek out the best deals on my blus (I refuse to pay more than $20 per hit). But what do I know...not like I'm an economics major or anything... ![]() Edit: I went back and read the OP a couple more times and I retract my statement of support. It seems the OP is referring to only wanting to purchase expensive blus as a matter of value. As such, I now agree that he is nuts. ![]() Last edited by progers13; 10-23-2009 at 01:48 AM. |

Can someone make this clear to me.
![]() Okay so as far as I understood the OP is talking about Satisfaction of purchasing a BD when its Cheap Vs. Expensive. So if this is correct then my opinion would be it doesn't make a difference to me. Its the materials that counts. |

I know someone who was giving piano lessons in Taipei. average was $30/hr, but in the rich neighborhoods it was $60/hr, not taking advantage of people with more dollars than sense though. If she charged 30, they would think she isn't good enough, the good teachers are expensive, so they would not hire her.
Many people get validation from having a Benz, Rolex, Louis Vuitton, etc. The price tag is a social status. Some people can only judge the value of something by its price tag. ![]() Now with everyone getting Snow White BD/DVD for 9.99, Blus aren't special anymore. ![]() I am happier than a pig wallowing in its own filth to get movies for 10 or 15 bucks. I am annoyed for some that I didn't wait like "Any Given Sunday," paid 19.99; 6 months later 9.99 ![]() Last edited by Travis; 10-23-2009 at 05:17 AM. |

Yeah, I buy crap and don't even have time to watch it. Sometimes, it actually feels like a burden to watch it. Should probably just stop.

The lower the cost, the more likely I am to purchase it. Period. That's what makes me happy. The higher the cost, the less interested I am in it.
I have 45 bluray films. Box sets aside, I think I only paid more than $10 for a handful of them. ![]() |

There are only certain "must have" movies I'll buy when they come out, other than that I wait for the prices to drop and l am tickled pink when one I like has gone down in price. And as blus become more popular the prices will continue to drop which is great because that means more blu for me!
