Talking Brad Dourif To Return For Child's Play Remake!

This is fantastic news! Nobody quite has that iconic killer doll voice quite like Brad Dourif, and this is the first remake I'm aware to keep the original star. I know people ask why remake it, and truth is the first one is an awesome movie and there isn't really a need, but if they absolutely feel the need to remake it, than I am just glad that Dourif is returning as Chucky. They couldn't really continue on after the last few without him being horribly disfigured, and far too comedic. I love the idea of the more brutal Chucky returning. And also very very happy that Mancini is writing it, so it's not like the original team isn't approving of this. Hopefully they get much more support from the fans on this!

Since unofficially announced way back in October of '07, things have been relatively quiet for Child's Play, the remake of the classic 80's flick that creator Don Mancini has been scripting with plans of taking the helm. This weekend Brad Dourif - who played Charles Lee Ray (also known as Chucky) in the franchise - was on hand at a local horror convention where he confirmed that he will in fact once again play the voice of Chucky. He told fans that after hearing from a random guy at a drug store that he wasn't returning, he called Mancini and asked, "Are you remaking 'Child's Play'?" Mancini exclaimed, "Yeah, you're gonna do it, right?" Dourif screamed, "YES!" Although, no word on when Universal plans on putting this sucker into production. We'll keep you posted as always.

In the original: When serial killer Charles Lee Ray is mortally wounded in a police shoot-out, he uses a voodoo spell to transfer his soul into Chucky, a "Good Guys" doll. Andy receives the doll as a birthday gift, and Chucky soon resumes his killing spree. However, Charles doesn't want to be trapped in the body of a doll forever. His only escape would be to transfer into the first human he revealed his true identity to... which places Andy in mortal danger.

While I'm against remakes in general, I feel like the original Child's Play, while a very good film, never really rose to the level of a horror classic because it seemed like there was room for improving it somehow. And let's face it, Brad Dourif goes largely unsung because "it's only voice acting", but is the best aspect of the original film (edging out Catherine Hicks), and easily the best aspect of the sequels, which more and more seemed to revel in NOT being horror films.

I will keep an eye on how this develops...

I'm just very happy to see Mancini and Dourif are responsible for this, so I'm down for whatever I love Child's Play. The first and sequel where the only films to truly scare me as a child.

Oh no, here we go again...Why, oh why does Hollywood have to do this? Would someone out there please come up with a 1/2 way original concept and end all these needless remakes? ... (I threw that in for you WyldeMan45.) I think it's time for the guys who do all the "not another" movies to do "Not Another Horror Remake!!"
