Default is the internet killing the real world?

is it me or is the internet killing the real world off? little by little the real world is almost becoming increasing less and less necessary while we move to an online only existence for the most part. like retail for example. online shopping in a lot of ways is killing the retail industry. at the very least it's doing its part. is that a good thing though? or is a disaster waiting to happen? with all the progress we've made it seems like it's not for better. maybe i'm crazy, but it's starting to feel like the matrix may be reality in some ways more than fiction. or i could be a loon.

With the new taxes on the internet sales stuff, people will start buying from B&M stores more often... so ... no.

I'll still buy online if there are taxes applied to the merchandise, assuming that the online price is still cheaper after the tax. The reason I buy online is not because there's no tax, but because the total price is so much lower than what you'll find at a B&M. It's all about the pricing. The difference that tax will make on a sale likely won't have too great of an impact on the total purchase price, because online prices are generally way lower than B&M prices, unless you have good hook-ups.

Example: $300 for a Blu-ray player at Best Buy, plus 8% tax. Now that player becomes $324ish. Same player online goes for (as an example) $200. Add the same 8% to that sale and now you're talking about $216. Which wins? I'll tell you, in case you're not very good at math: $216.

I have very complex views about this, which I will share when I get back home from campus. But, to sum it up, it is.

Not to mention eBay. How would I figure out how much taxes to charge someone and then where to send it and what not. I haven't sold on eBay for over a year now, but it I find have something I want to sell, who is going to figure this out for me? I have a feeling that eBay would probably have an application for that, but then of course have to raise their fees to cover the expenses.

Question

Maybe some of us would buy local, if they would have inventory to
chose from.

I'm sure they'd have an automated calculator application for that, like you said. They do something like that already for intrastate sales; they know when a California buyer purchases from a California buyer.
