We had one in here in Illinois about a year ago.

I didn't know what in the hell was happening! Those don't happen very often round here.

We felt a subtle jolt at work, about 20 miles from epicenter. It was just enough to make us all go "you feel that?"

I love this site though:

There's earthquakes all the time here in Hawaii, more specifically; the Big Island. Back in October 2006, we had a major one hit all the islands and this was when I was living on O'ahu. We had a 6.1 hit us.

Southern Cali is still better place to live than most of ther part of the country, i think any other disaster is worst then earthquake (flood, hurricane, snow) also strong earthquake might not even occur in your life time.

Hells bells...

We had swarms here in Reno a while ago, and that was the scariest thing I have ever felt.

I live about a mile from where they were centered, and there was about 4 or 5 3.0+ a day, and a 4.5+ every couple of days for about 3 or 4 months. And then it all stopped.

Nothing like getting woken up by a 4.5 every other night for a month.

I think the scariest was a couple years ago a real small (4.7 iirc) happened a couple miles from my parents house when I was home on the Hayward fault. For some reason it got focused into my neighborhood, and knocked stuff off the bookshelves and stuff... It was particularly scary because I had just gotten off the phone with one of my uncles, who is a world renown seismic geologist, talking about the chances of a 7.5+ on the Hayward fault in the next 30 years (he was doing part of the survey for the upgrading of Memorial Stadium in Berkeley...more on that below)...

I lived about 3 miles from the cypress structure in '89. That was scary and bad, but it was 15 seconds and not many bad aftershocks.

Anyway, I have been to every home Cal football game (except my time in the Corps), and that stadium is a strange case. One of the best known faults in the world runs almost goalpost to goalpost. The stadium holds 72,516 and has a 1:300 chance (iirc) of having a major earthquake happen during a home game.

Above a Billboard size poster of Desmond Bishop

Looking down at the same area

Aerial with North at the top.

Inside support showing fault creep (my favorite part of the stadium, cause it is creep-y ). These columns were built at the same angle in the 1920s. The stadium was built in 4 quarters to allow each quarter to move with fault creep without pulling down the other parts. That is why there are two identical (other than one being crooked) pours right next to each other... This is just outside the visitors locker room.
