Default Mordaunt Audio?

I was made aware about Mordaunt audio from a friend and see that they are some high end speakers (high price) but are having some amazing deals right now. I have never heard of these speakers before though. Has anyone else? If so, how do they sound? Comparing them too say Polk or Klipsch which I've heard before.

Mordaunt-Short Avant Premiere Plus System
Mordaunt-Short has made an excellent all-around system that performed well for both music and home theater. The drive units looked incredible and were by far the most attractive satellite system I had seen, whether the grill covers were on or off. Their clean representation of music and theatrical soundtracks was impressive and edged out the competition slightly in terms of definition, accuracy and transparency. If I were to purchase a small satellite system for my home at this budget, this would be the set. The MS909W performed better in the low end than all other subs, though it had the clear advantage of its 12" driver and larger enclosure.
hope that helps out some

Here is the thread over at the AVS Forum, I don't think anyone here has them

They sound way better than Polk or Klipsch. I would say there up there with PSB, Paradigm or B&W.

My parents have some Mourdaunt Short speakers that I can easily hold in my hand and they are some of the best speakers I have heard.!

this is something else you could look into. Although they are again not overly popular in the US they are huge in Europe and they are one item I want to audition for possible future upgrade. There is a few owners on here that have Jamo speakers. Jwilly is the first person that comes to mind and I know he really likes his speakers.

callas01, you seem to be pretty knowledgable about overseas speaker brands. I have been curious as to how you seem to know so much about these brands? One day I wish I will be able to be as helpful in this subject as you have been.

I read a lot.

Not to make that sound pompous or anything, but I went out this summer and spent a lot of time auditioning speakers and trying to find out a lot about them and their sound and what types of sounds I prefer. I visited about 5 dealers this summer and listened to a lot of different speakers. I also read the different reviews that I find on the internet from Stereophile, Home Theatre mag, Audioholics, Whathifi, etc.

With Mordaunt, I have never heard them, but I saw them on the link that I sent you, a few months back and paid them no mind, then I saw them again and googled them and read some reviews and AVS forum. Turns out they are very good speakers.

With Jamo, they are owned by Klipsch.... which happens to now own API (Energy and Mirage speakers) also.... So with Jamo, I wanted to research why Klipsch bought them.... turns out they make fantastic speakers according to reviews, and I am sure a lot of the research gets shared amongst companies divisions. But I like the looks of the Jamo C 607 so much that I want to audition them and perhaps one day upgrade to them... However, PSB Image line, Dali Concept line, and Energys RC line will all be on my auditioning list too. So when that time comes, we will see.

I have a friend that has been in the car audio business for years, and he's always mentioned Mordaunt Short speakers. They have very impressive sounding car speakers from what he's told me. He's very bullish on them. From everything I've read about their home speakers they are excellent. In fact every review I've read on their speakers were glowing.

I like the specs on the Mordaunt-Short Ms300 speaker set and the price of it. I am going to get a new subwoofer later on. What would be a good one to go with these speakers. I've heard mixed reviews about acoustic audio. I was also looking at the Ms309w or 409w subwoofer. What would be some other good recommendations for these speakers.

I will also upgrade my receiver in the future but that is another conversation all together.

you could look into the Premier Acoustic PA-120, the eD A2-300, SVS NSD-10, Hsu Research makes good subs, Energy has good subs too S10.3 or ESW-V10 (make sure is the V10), Martin Logan Dynamo

If you read thee reviews it says to go with a warm sounding receiver. You may want to consider Marantz or Yamaha or Harman Kardon as your choices.

Default Mordaunt Short Speakers

I'm From Indonesia, here almost all of popular speakers in the US like Polk, Klipsch, B&W, KEF, etc. are available with premium price.

One thing with Mordaunt - Short (M-S), it has the range from entry level like the Avant series to the top of the list like Performance. I purchased the Avant series (in phases) for my 7.1 system

Front : Avant 914i
Center: Avant 905i
Surround: Avant 902i
Back surround: Avant 903i (bipole)
Subwoofer: Avant 309i

In total it cost me around USD 1500.

I auditioned with other popular brands like B&W, KEF etc and I think my M-S are in the same league with only less than 50% the cost of above brands.

Build quality is great and it has good looks. This is real value for money buys.

I'm surprised that this makes is not well known in the US. Here the brand are available in every high end audio stores.

I would suggest you audition it whenever it is available near your place
