Default Looking to build.

Have totally updated my choices here in the HT plan. 7.1 (eventually 7.2)

This is what I'm getting.
Onkyo 607 Receiver (494.00)<<<Ordering Friday most likely.
1x Energy C-C100 Center (Ordered)
2x Energy C-500 Towers (Ordered)
4x Energy C-100 Bookshelf speakers (Ordered)

Will be needing suggestions on a great sub to go with this.

Also, do I need an Uninterrupted Power Supply or will a surge protector strip be adequate?

The only suggestion I have is to consider other sub manufacturers, as Klipsch subs are pretty expensive when compared to equivalent subwoofers from other companies.

we bought those speakers and sub for our son. We also bought the Yamaha 663 for his receiver. He is happy with the set-up

I just want all the sub to match the speakers. Every Klipsch setup I have ever heard has been impressive. The cost of the sub does not bother me. I need at least 3 HDMI inputs though, so the yamaha 663 won't work.

Glad to hear positives on the speakers.

I have the SL's and the SUB-12, not bad at all for the money.....I also have my paired with a Sony DA2400ES receiver....which can be had at most good local dealers for about $650 (what I paid for mine about 3-4 weeks ago). I have had an Onkyo, Yamaha, and a Sony 710, so far I have liked my setup matched with the 2400ES the best. Sound is night and day from all the other receivers I tried (they sounded good, just not great) I love the GUI interface on the ES series, makes setup and tweaking your setup so easy.

Check out my gallery pix, the SL's are a little hard to see, I will upload some new pictures when I get some time.

Then you should check out the new Yamaha RX-V665 instead of the 663. It has 4 HDMI inputs instead of 2. It includes Burr Brown DACs on all channels, and it also has a host of other features.

I would suggest getting the 12 inch Klipsch sub instead of the 12 for a little more buck you can get a whole lot more sound IMO. I own the 12 and Ive heard the 10. The 12 can fill your room with little sound or shake everything in your place.

I'm very pleased with my 606; had it for 15 months now without any problems. However, I know there are other options. The Yamaha RX-V663 comes to mind but, as with the Harmon/Kardon, Denon, etc., is more expensive than the 606.

In my opinion the #1 feature of an a/v receiver is HDMI switching. Make a list of receivers with HDMI switching and the number of HDMI-in ports you need, spreadsheet the cost and pull the trigger.

OK...
get rid of that Klipsch garbage and invest in a real speaker company: JBL.

Looked around for quite a while and then pulled the trigger on the AA HDSub-12. I recommend them. (And reading the thread about them)

Can't. Live in the middle of nowhere az. Right in between vegas and phoenix. 3 hours each way. Just going off everything I've read on here. May end up going to vegas soon and check out a best buy but there isn't anything here for that sort of stuff. Smalltown syndrome.

(And your avatar is creepy)

I'd suggest taking a look at some of the ID sub manufacturers. Elemental Designs(eD), HSU Research, Epik, SVS, etc. You'll get a very good bang for your buck on these subs.

+1 Seriously Beta, I can hardly stand to look at that, but I am constantly drawn into it....

Budget is 1500-1750.

Receiver is about 490 (just what I factored it as, I know its dicsounted at 6ave). I just want to order it all at one time so if it goes off discount that's the normal price at newegg, amazon etc.

So far I'm only really sure Im getting that receiver. All the other stuff just seemd good to me and matched.

what is your Zip code.... or one nearby?

When I say "HT Store" I'm not talking about Best-Buy.... my parents live in a small dump-hole town in the middle of nowhere Ohio, and they have one (wasn't there when I was a kid) so I bet I can find one in your area

p.s. my avatar is looking at you............

This the best advice for subs. Any of those are far superior to klipsch or polk.

My personal favs are HSU or SVS

I'm shocked. A discussion on subs and folks are recommending Polk and Klipsh? No need to "match" a sub to your front channel speakers, it's not like there's a tweeter in there and you need to match material types, etc.

Depending on how much of that budget is set aside for a subwoofer, there's a whole gamut of options.

Fair Performance & Low Budget
- proficient
- av123
- Sonance
- Boston Acoustics

Midrange
- TruAudio
- RBH
- Triad

HighEnd
- Sunfire
- Velodyne
- SVS
- Mordaundt Short
