Default Favorite Films of 2016 (So Far)?

Curious to see where everyone is at so far this year. I know opinions are spread on this topic, and wanted to share my personal favorites so far:

http://www.imdb.com/list/ls007621473/?publish=save

Let me know your thoughts, and what you think as well!

Off to an early start, with many other anticipated flicks (Suicide Squad)!

The best film from 2016 that I have seen so far is 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi. I never thought Michael Bay would direct a real film.

Conjuring 2 for me and I'm not even a horror fan.

5. Civil War
4. Batman v Superman
3. 10 Cloverfield Lane
2. 13 Hours
1. Conjuring 2

Worst would probably have to be either Ninja Turtles 2 or Independence Day 2. Heard Xmen was terrible, never got to see it, wanted to but girlfriend hates Xmen.

Hmm, 13 hours- I'll have to check that one out! My thoughts exactly on Michael Bay at least with some of his current flicks.

Michael Bay when he tries is actually pretty damn good. 13 Hours and The Rock are proof when he gets a good script he can make a good movie. The Island isn't bad either. It's the damn Transformers sequels that make him a joke. Wish he would just move on from them already because with the exception of Pearl Harbor, pre-transformers Bay is awesome. The fact he uses practical effects scores him points from me.

Pain and Gain was excellent; if you missed this you should check it out.

Armageddon is well-regarded by a lot of folks as well. Its an all-time popcorn movie..

Yup I've seen pain and gain (own the bluray). One of his best. And Armegddon agreed...it's one of the best popcorn flicks.

I rarely go to the theater so I'm going with bluray release dates. My top ten for the year would probably go like this.

1)Room
2)Midnight Special
3)Stanford Prison Experiment
4)The Walk 3D
5)The Hateful Eight
6)The Big Short
7)Eye in the Sky
8)Remember
9)10 Cloverfield Lane
10)Spotlight

My list in progress with notes:

http://letterboxd.com/althestrange/l...-2016-in-film/
  1. The Neon Demon (4/5)
  2. Deadpool (4/5)
  3. Ip Man 3 (4/5)
  4. X-Men: Apocalypse (4/5)
  5. 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi (4/5)
  6. The Shallows (3.5/5)
  7. Independence Day: Resurgence (3.5/5)
  8. Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice (3.5/5)
  9. Warcraft (3.5/5)
  10. Captain America: Civil War (3.5/5)
  11. The Jungle Book (3.5/5)
  12. Gods of Egypt (2.5/5)
  13. Zoolander 2 (2.5/5)
I'm honestly rather disappointed with this year. Only 5 of these are in the range I'd firmly say are "good," and a whole bunch I've graded in the "pretty-good" range (3.5/5). Nothing in the 4.5/5 or 5/5 range at all. I've passed up a lot of sequels this year--maybe I'll like them, maybe not, but at this point I'm not expecting much. Very little of what I've seen will have a lasting impact.

I'm hoping Star Trek: Beyond, Suicide Squad, Dr. Strange, and Rogue One will be great films. Otherwise, I'll probably hit up some arthouse or foreign stuff to find something more satisfying.

Purge 3 or Deadpool.
Hateful Eight? I did see that end of last year, but if it counts, it's on the list.

Only movies I've really enjoyed this year have been The Witch, X-Men Apocalypse and HARDCORE HENRY. 13 Hours was also pretty solid. Year has been pretty lackluster in comparison to '14 and '15, imo.

X-Men: Apocalypse
The Shallows
The Jungle Book
Captain America: Civil War
Zootopia
10 Cloverfield Lane
Batman v Superman

The only movies that blew me away this so far are X-Men, The Shallows, and 10 Cloverfield Lane, not movies I had any kind of expectations for.
