Just trying to see if I'm missing something here.
Kino tends to work with MGM/Fox/Paramount? Twilight Time: works with Fox/Sony/MGM Shout!: Sony/Universal Criterion: Almost everyone Arrow: Almost everyone? Any bigs ones that I'm missing? Does anyone really work with Sony as much as Twilight Time? Just want to make sure I know who works with who in case I need to ask them about potential releases without getting anyone irritated. |

Shout Universal, MGM, Morgan Creek and in the past Fox. They do not have a deal with Sony, but they seem to be starting one with Warner.
Twilight Time ended MGM last December. Now only Fox and Sony and misc titles. Olive - MGM, Paramount/Republic. Kino - MGM, Paramount/Republic, Disney/ABC & Touchstone, recently Fox. Mill Creek - Sony, in the past Disney/Touchstone. The Disney deal seems to have ended with Kino taking over some titles they released. |

Twilight Time have now ended their partnership with MGM. Shout apparently now have a deal of sorts with Warner Bros, I'm not sure if there are limitations to their deal. I am not aware of any deal they have with Sony though. Shout also release MGM titles. Arrow don't really deal with everyone. They work with MGM and they have a deal with Universal that is limited to their UK releases only. Olive Films have deals with MGM and with Paramount, with the latter coming with the same restrictions as Kino's deal with them. Mill Creek release Sony titles and have in the past released Disney titles but Kino seem to be re-releasing all of those. The British label Indicator / Powerhouse has deals with a couple of studios - their deal with Sony lets them release those region free so that's something to keep in mind if you are interested in Sony titles. |

Does anyone work with Lionsgate? There are so many titles that Lionsgate has the rights to from the Artisan catalogue that seems to be wasted. Can't believe there is no Ghost Dog release yet. |

I'm not quite sure what they would have left for anyone else to release. It is a shame because they have so many great films within the Studio Canal and Miramax library that may never see the light of day on Blu-ray. |

I would love to see someone in the states release the 4K remaster of Ran. Lionsgate bought all of Artisan's library right? I would really like to see Ghost Dog and the Funeral get a release at some point. |

I kind of wonder if Criterion will end up getting it back and will release the 4K remaster. If the Lionsgate edition goes out of print, then that would be a sign that someone is planning to release the 4K. |

Almost all the movies I want are Paramount that they won't let others release yet do nothing with them: Paint Your Wagon, Nevada Smith, Sons of Katie Elder, Donavan's Reef, Heaven Can Wait, War Of the Worlds, I Married A Monster From Outer Space, Blue Hawaii, The Shootist, The Naked Jungle, Back To The Beach, The Ghost and the Darkness, The Tenant, Bringing Out The Dead, Paper Moon, Targets, Mommy Dearest and more. My DVDs of these are looking pretty old and worn out and it pisses me off that everyday obscure stuff most people here have never even seen are getting quality releases while these just sit in some vault collecting dust or worse yet, going the way of John Wayne's The Alamo, where MGM waited so long they literally let the film rot.

Shout! and Warner had a deal since 2010, but only with TV titles on DVD (and Warner had to call the shots from what I heard). It wasn't until this year and recently that they apparently expanded their deal. Also, Shout! still has a deal with Fox but so far recently I've only seen TV shows on DVD releases.
And regarding Miramax titles, I know Miramax/Lionsgate sublicensed Hellraiser III to Arrow in the States and Microcosmos to Kino. Last edited by Nailwraps; 03-09-2018 at 05:39 AM. |
