Hi! I am new in the forum, I need your expertise in HDMI connection. There is no audio when I am connecting my HDMI cable from my Blu-ray player going to my Receiver (Harman AVR 147). Do I need to use separate optical/coaxial cable for audio? thanks

This may be a stupid question but did you go into your receivers source configuration and change the audio in for your component to HDMI? Looks like it starts at the bottom of page 30 of your avr manual.

I am pretty certain the 147 does not process audio over HDMI. It just does video switching. You will need a separate optical connection for 5.1 audio.

What player do you have? Your AVR supports 6-channel direct so for lossless you can have your player do the decodes and output direct to analog to your AVR. Just need 6x RCA interconnects.

Why is it that there are 2 HDMI INPUT PORT in my receiver (AVR 147) if it can't process audio? Is there any possibilities that I can use those 2 HDMI INPUT port?

Some receivers have HDMI ports that provide video switching only. Unfortunately, HDMI didn't think about this very well, so the only way to figure out if an HDMI-equipped receiver supports audio via HDMI is to read through the specs closely or dig through the manual. I'd have much preferred them to do separate "HDMI Video" and "HDMI" licensing / logo programs. There is a paragraph near the middle of page 14 of your receiver's manual that mentions that the switching of HDMI does not give the receiver access to the signal (no on-screen menus from the receiver and no access to the audio signal).
