Default Need HT info

Its early. Dont plan on buying a system for another six months. But I figured I'd start asking around while I save up for it. Need ideas and info and suggestions. Looking to get HT that I wont need to change for 10 years...if you know what I mean...kinda like my Kuro

My rough budget/expense estimate

$1000 - receiver
$1500 - speakers

Thanks

Wafi

The Pioneer Elite SC-07 I think you might be able to find around $1000. I'm contemplating that or the SC-05 right now.

I would second the SC-05 and SC-07, that or a cheap receiver with preouts and an external amplifier. If your budget for a receiver is 1000 dollars, I would up your budget on speakers. Especially if you are looking to make them last 10+ years. I would think 2500-3000 dollars would be a bit more reasonable....

LOTS of great speakers to be had in that range.

i agree, go get yourself either the sc05 or 07, they are top notch and will compliment you kuro quite nicely.

if i were you i would get a pioneer sc05, can be had for about 900 bucks and a set of really nice towers. That will keep you going to a while untill you can aford a nice center and rears.

Thanks guys...do they come with HDMI out for analog? What about speakers? I guess I could go up on the budget a lil bit but dont wanna spend more than $2000 on speakers.

Living within the same budget you mentioned in your OP, I would cut back on the receiver to say about $700 and increase your speaker allocation to $1,800. I'm sure that for $700 you could get a receiver that handles all of the HD codecs and provides you with enough HDMI support.

I'm a bit confused with the HDMI question...

Based on your HT gallery, you have very nice gear (Kuro, and a very very nice cabinet) but limited space. So I'd go for terrific speakers, that don't hog a lot of space.

I'm a Definitive Technologies Mythos fan - high end speakers at a mid-range price. Very good to look at, and slender. Take a look at the Mythos One and Mythos Three units - they'll look terrific with the Kuro, and the sound is just incredible. They're also very efficient, so you don't need to break the bank right away with huge money on your receiver.

They also make very, very good speakers to use as surrounds, in smaller packages. Stick with reviewing the Mythos line from DefTech - their BP line is awesome, but comes in bigger packages. The Mythos Eight would look awesome with the Kuro as a center speaker, and broadcasts sound with amazing clarity.

Other folks around here know more about other sweet sounding speaker options, but most are in form factors that may be a bit large for your current setup.

I agree that the Pioneer SC series of Elite recievers is outstanding, and would drive efficient speakers very well. You can keep the costs down going with an SC-03 or SC-05 - and they have plenty of power to feed the Mythos line, which is very efficient.

Anyway, my two cents.

You can get the Swan Diva towers, center, and surrounds for right around $1500 (darker finish)

And my envy would be included for free
