Default PS3 Price w/ Blu-Ray

The current prices of Blu-Ray products is rediculously high compared to the new PS3. Did the Blu-Ray drive change the price any when placing it into the new PS3?

Thanks

Just about everyone expects the PS3 to sell for $299-$499. Sony has stated this past week that their initial standalone Blu-ray players will be about $600 MSRP. Not bad at all IMO.

$600 seems pretty cheap. Considering the 1st HD-DVD players are to be nearer $1,000.

gamespot.com says that ps3 is $299 now but a stand alone player still cost $600 in that case my parents will be glad to let me buy a ps3 if it can play blu ray hd movies

... and $1,000 1st generation HD-DVDs are planned to be playback only 1080i machines. With PS3 offering 2x1080p playback at $300 it's likely that dedicated $600 Blu-ray machines will also offer standard and high definition recording modes ...

Default ps3 cost

http://www.canoe.ca/NewsStand/Winnip...15128-sun.html

firm Merrill Lynch revealed this week they figure the PS3 will come out at a retail price of $400 US, which would likely see it sell for closer to $500 in Canuckbucks.

I dont know how far to trust this article. I couldnt see sony saying these things and as far as sony losing 100 dollars per console is complete bull chit. Sony didnt make a new console to take a loss. And everyone that i know estimates that the ps3 will cost around 500 dollars and we are ok with that. Because of all the things that it offers. So i have to put my [BULLCHIT] stamp on this one. Nice try Xbox Fan Boys or should i say Bill

Default ps3

True PSP had cost 25,000 yen ($229). But people lined up overnight to buy it, and they said it was a hit but that doesn't mean people will do the same for Ps3 for $500 or $400
Sony Computer Entertainment suffered a loss of 51.1 billion yen ($458 million), even ($1.83 billion) no business should take that much of a loss first year it just not good business strategy. They should reduce cost to catch peoples attention to buy products aren't business suppose to make profits not lose

To be honest, I wouldn't care if the price is 400$ or 500$, I would buy it and most people would anyway. But the biggest market is still probably college students with tight budget and that's what they know too.
I wouldn't be happy either if they decided to cut down on components either because consoles are supposed to last for years and quality is the most important factor. They do have many optional elements to add on and that's good enough

You give away the razor to sell the blades...

The PS3 will lose money on the console, just as the PS2 lost money on the console. But, the profits are huge in the games that are sold, and odds are good that there will be a lot of games sold. So, while figures show that the 'console' lost money, these figures may not reflect the entire system's profitability including the sale of games for the consoles.

The Nintendo seems is almost unwanted, which means that the X-Box & PS3 will be the consoles kids will be begging for this year and next. I fully expect that the PS3 will have sold over a million units and put Blu-Ray Disc into over a million homes in the first week it is available. I expect the same to happen with X-Box, but no HD-DVD means that the competition for BD will be slim to none. Plus, HD-DVD loses the chance to push its way into a million homes by being a part of X-Box.

How does Nintendo seem unwanted? They just haven't revealed anything but very minor things about the Revolution, that's why you don't hear too much about it.

This "Revolution" will be as powerful as an XBOX in terms of polygons if we follow their logic but it seems that it's the pad which will argue in favor of the "Revolution" name. If not, it's another Nintendo bullshit... 8)

Mmm...
I seem to remember, Nintendo being at the grounds... Almost no profits anymore (+- 15 years ago) and then there's this "Pokémon"... And look what it did to Nintendo, it made them big again.

I think we can expect more than we think from this 'Revolution' if they say its a revolution in gameplay...
However a strategy in marketing is always exaggerate, these games might be better than we think... And don't forget, Nintendo aims at 8yr -> 14yr old people and rarely goes beyond it...

I was going to say, what's so revolutionary about the Nintendo Revolution if the games won't be in HD but then you answered my question with this:

I had forgotten that. No wonder I haven't had interest in any of the Nintendo platforms in years. They specialize in kids games.

GC isnt all for little kids ummm resident evil 4 anyone? Anyways nintendo signed a contract with sony to give them all the rpgs in exchange for some other genres thus near monopoly on playstation rpgs.

As for the topic consoles are supposed to cost less than manufacture price its been that way since ps1.
