Just curious if anyone here has been. I haven't personally, but we are going to be near the MN one next month and thought we stop in and check it out. I'd like to add to my collection of custom mugs/steins.
Any thoughts on it? |

it will be a real nerd fest but there will be plenty of cleavage at least to distract you from the sweaty 45 year old pot bellied "knight" in his 400+ man hour "homemade" suit of armor who drove the event in a tri colored 1995 ford escort.

That pretty much sums up my experiences. Nerds, cleavage, beer.

I've been to many, many Ren Fests. The best two that I have been to are the Colorado Ren Fest and the New England Ren Fest (also called King Richard's Faire).
Both are nestled in the woods, have dedicated buildings and architecture, plenty of acts, good food, and an overall great time. I would highly recommend either one! |

I've been to one. I think it was the New England Ren Fest that purplegrasshopper mentioned. I had a great time. I'm not sure it's something I would want to a lot, but it's fun for something different. You will definitely see plenty of nerds and geeks, and you may even see an occasional storm trooper, but there are cool shows, activities and good food. And you will definitely be able to add something to your stein collection.

Agreed. I've been to the one in Texas (near Huston) and several times to the one in Nashville and the place always has plenty of medieval babes. The food isn't bad either, and decently-priced. The shows are entertaining. And if you have kids, it's family-friendly.
On the flip side, my wife hates them and finds them boring. I think you have to be interested in the whole medieval thing to really enjoy them. Personally I just think of them like a county fair with a theme. |

My wife and 2 kids go every year when it is open, (it actually opens tomorrow by the way until the end of Oct) and we have a fun time. The kids love watching the plays, music, dancing, and they like knights, swords, fairies, dragons and stuff. My daughter will dress up like a fairy as well (my son is only 5 months old, so maybe we'll dress him as a halfing?...LOL!!) But there is lots of good beer and even better food too. Its a good time to spend a day with the family. The one here in PA is only 10 miles from my home every year and they have an entire village that remains up and is used for all kind of other functions during the year. I believe the grounds span about a good 10 square miles in area, so we make it a point to go at least once every year as a family outing.
And yes, there are still plenty of nerds who love acting "the part" that they look like her in PA too. Best part is my wife is a teacher, so we get 4 free passes every year, as she goes there on field trips. |

The one outside of Nashville is nice, if anyone's ever been. There's a family here that built a castle (Castle Gwynn) and they rent the site for the Ren Fest each year. Makes it feel more authentic.
