Default What is the difference between 40 + 80 PS3

Does it matter which one if I'm getting it as a blue ray player?

Thanks,

--Frank

For a blu-ray player it doesn't matter. The 40-gig PS3 doesnt provide backwards compatibility with PS2 games, doesn't have the media slot, has a smaller hard drive and has 2 fewer USB ports. Other than that, they're the same and for playing blu-rays, none of the differences matter.

Edit: Official link (part of the FAQ that answers this question) is here: http://www.us.playstation.com/ps3/about/faq

Compared to the 80GB PS3 (which I have), the 40GB loses PS2 compatibility, has fewer USB ports, and has no media card reader. On the positive side, its processor is based on 65nm processes (vs 90? for the older models), so it runs cooler (and therefore the fans come on less often).

From a purely watching Blu-rays (not Blue ray) perspective, you'll be just fine, and have the advantage of less fan noise. Although the fan on my 80GB model isn't that intrusive, it is audible in quiet scenes.

Super Audio CD. It was supposed to be to CD what Blu-ray is to DVD, but there was a format war (SACD vs DVD-A). Neither one, so both have essentially faded into obscurity. Fortunately, Warner stopped the same thing from happening with HD video.

The latest difference is that the 80GB has been discontinued by Best Buy. No longer on the website, and should be announced at stores on Monday.(1-28)
