Default Differences between BD and HD DVD hardware?

I have seen both in operation now, i own a BD player and wanted to see what the other side looked like too, Now that i have seen both, they look perty much the same? or am i just stupid, while i will stay with BD just wanted to see if i was missing out on anything the other camp was offering. other than the technical aspect of the two is there really a difference in PQ? Do not misunderstand, i love BD but i wanted to give some friends of mine some hard facts to bring them in

IMO software comes down to implementation. Yes alot of titles can handle a lowbitrate VC-1 encode with a lossless audio compression codec. But It's those handful of great titles that suffer I am concerned about. For example,
King Kong Extended cut with A lossless audio track, would it be possible without comprimising transparency to the master? Also, as more and more movies are released, don't you guys want the extras in HD too? I know I do. It just seems like HDDVD is tapped out as is.

On the Hardware side, HDDVD is more or less a complete product....but reliability is such a hassle on this format it's difficult to validate PiP/Ime/HDi etc when they can't seem to get the movies to just play right, or at all.
Boiling discs, stutters, audio sync issues and compatibility are all over the place. These issues have not plagued the Blu-ray format, suprising as it is all new technology and HDDVD is just a branch off of existing tech. But when you have one resource for ALL of HDDVD, and everyone else doing BD, I guess it is to be expected.

All in all, right now they are both pretty close.

I would give BD the edge to BD in the following areas:

1) Movie catalog more varied.

2) Players/Movies more dependable

3)Lossless audio more the rule than the exception.

4)Selection in players/brands/features

HDDVD wins in one category:

1) Complete feature set

HDDVD just isn't better in any area other than that they finalized their spec earlier, which is why they are able to do a few things in special features that BD will have to wait til fall for. These special features IMO are boring, and useless (at this point in time)...but it is an advantage for "some"

I guess it depends on what tv you're running. I can see a huge difference between DVD and Blu-Ray

The software side is virtually identical.

It's the disc size. It simply comes down to the external factors, as in who's on board and /or exclusive to which would win.

While HD DVD players currently have the feature advantage, the feature sets for both types of players will be pretty equal by the end of the year. PiP, downloadable subtitles, BD-Live, etc. are already being demonstrated and tested.

Too bad I can't mention other really nifty things due to prying eyes...

suppose to be the same, but it comes down to disc space, and studio support which HD dvd doesnt have.

Not NEARLY as much as he may be torturing the HD-DVD advocates with hints such as that. They don't torture me; merely give me warm fuzzies.

We're at the stage where a vast "army" of low-cost, quality Blu-ray players are "massing" for the Blu invasion. I'm looking forward to that.

Well, the difference in quality, at this point, is THAT apparent. Personally, I think the best Blu-ray discs look better than the best HD DVD discs, but not all Blu-ray discs take advantage of the HUGE size and bandwidth advantages of Blu-ray *cough* Warner Brothers *cough*. Once the formats are more mature, 30GB REALLY won't seem like enough for a longer title with lossless audio and a normal amount of special features all to fit on a disc.

Also, although HD DVD has things like PIP right now, those same features (and more) are coming to Blu-ray in the very near future. And the Blu-ray implementation is MUCH better than the HD DVD implementation, with two simultaneous HD video streams, allowing for a much greater feature set than just video commentary. That's also an example of HD DVD's bandwidth limitations. There's just no way to get two HD video streams compressed into the limited video bandwidth allowed by HD DVD... and there's not enough space to store it if there was.

Add to that the huge discrepency in studio support and PC data storage support, and it's hard to look too favorably on HD DVD from any angle at this point.

LET ME say my opinion

BD has dolbyTHD DTSHDMA and PCM, till now PCM soundtrack is unbeatable by HD-DVD version which has an inferior soundtrack called dolbydigital plus and DolbyTHD

Second:

BD in PQ prove its superiority ,its strengh ,its power by Higher bit rate AVC .

can anyone still tell me HD-DVD has power
'

look at most interview POTC Apocalypto dajavu casino Royale

makes HD-DVD fans just impressed and dreaming ,and hoping that they have never bought a single machine or disc called HD-DVD

HD-DVD is HD-DUD

Equally to FUD AND LIES
