Default Your thoughts on keeping/selling anime?

I am trying to decided if I want to keep all or let go some or even all of Slayers.
I've had it for years and love it but I don't plan on watching it anytime soon. I could keep the movie and some seasons but feels weird if i don't keep it all.

your thoughts?

I sell a bunch of Anime on here in the Anime Buying/Selling/Trade thread and should be used for whatever you don’t plan on watching ever again and just completely done with it. If you think there is a chance you will even if it is a slim chance then don’t because then you might regret it.

do you split up shows like keep some seasons of it and sell the rest or are compelled to get rid of all it? My OCD has some problems like I want to keep all of something but can't and it is hard to split things up.

Well I usually focus on just what I want to get rid of. So it varies on the series. Some can be trying to sell all of it and some are just parts.

Usually when it’s all parts of a series it is usually because of like a re-release that I want more than what I currently have, or like upgrading from DVD to Blu-ray. But there are some ones that I just sell the whole series for not wanting the series anymore. If it’s sold in Volumes, it is usually because of not finishing the series so selling what little I do have for the series to upgrade or gave up collecting the rest. I do sometimes have duplicates as well that I decide to get rid of. Sometimes with Volumes I could sell like ones a person might need to go with their collection since it might be something they don’t have and could help with that.

So yeah it’s a bit complicated and requires a lot of thinking of when deciding to add something. But everything I sell is something I am 100% sure of letting go of. Like no emotional attachments on it and rather have it go to a home of someone who does want it.

I'm not a "collector" type person, so I buy things because I want to watch them and sell them when I don't foresee myself watching them again.

I recently sold off all my 'Dragon Ball Z' discs. The series is considered a classic and I enjoyed watching most of it, but I don't think I'll ever sit through it all again, so I decided to sell it.

When selling off a series that is split across multiple releases, I usually try to sell it all off in one bundle. Sometimes that means that it takes longer to find the right buyer, but you don't end up stuck with 2 out of 5 seasons of a show on your shelf when you wanted to get rid of the whole thing.

Keep what you like, want, and will watch again.

I've accumulated so many titles over the years since my mentality was to buy what I liked (and I felt I was helping to support the industry). That mindset changed over time as I got older. I have hundreds of anime titles and a bunch of regular movies and TV series. When I had to box up everything since our home went through a renovation, my collection required about eight of those banker boxes. It didn't look like much on my shelves, but I knew I wanted to trim my collection by about two boxes.

I started with my DVDs. Any DVD I upgraded to Blu-ray was sold. No exceptions. This included rare stuff like Evangelion, Haruhi, and Fullmetal Alchemist. I wound up watching DVDs during my lunch at work -- all series I haven't seen in over a decade. In the end, there were a lot of shows I didn't think were just that good anymore so I sold them. I also sold and repurchased a few Blu-ray releases, mostly those bulky FUNimation combo packs. Instead I opted for just the Blu-ray version to save some shelf space.

As far as not owning certain releases of a series, I think we can all agree that some seasons are better than others. If you didn't care for one, you don't need it in your collection. It's just taking up space for new titles you enjoy, and odds are you won't waste your time rewatching it trying to force yourself to enjoy it. Among my collection, I own the first season of Sword Art Online but not any of the other seasons. Same goes for Full Metal Panic; I have Fumoffu, TSR, and IV but not the first season because I didn't enjoy it. YMMV, but the completionist mentality may eventually wane.

If you love Slayers and you said you do then you should hold on to all of it even if you are not planning on watching it anytime soon. Its not that you like it, its that you love it. There's stuff that I love, but I only rewatch it every couple of years. I hadn't watched NGE in about 10 years but then saw it on Netflix again and enjoyed the heck out of it (even with the mediocre dub). There's also stuff that you have to be in the mood for.

I do have a little of a collector mentality, but not as extreme as others. However, I got to a certain age and had to ask myself if I was really going to rewatch everything I bought or re-read every manga I had or for that matter the library of books that I own. I also have a little bit of a backlog

Especially for shows that are say over 50 episodes long? I don't think so. I also felt that if I should pass on I didn't want to be leaving my family with a ton of stuff to sort thru. So I've been trimming my collection, I try to sell or give away stuff at least 1-2 times a year. I've been able to get my manga collection down considerably to a more manageable size and gave away several hundred books. Anime is a little harder, because for everything I get rid off I end up buying something new.

As far as owning just part of a show, I think it depends on the length for me. If its just 2-3 seasons long my OCD might not let me get rid of it all. If its a show with several hundred episodes I might be ok owning the one season I really liked or if I was really unhappy with later seasons of even a modestly long show. I liked the first 50 or so episodes of Fairy Tale after that it started to get progressively less interesting to me. I own the first season of Durarara!! nothing after that because I thought the other seasons were inferior.

Sometimes its a little hard to recognize and choose between do I like this or do I really, really like this? If I only liked it and didn't love it maybe I don't need it. Anyways I think I need to go do something about my 6 different versions of Ghost in the Shell. I mean do I really need that many versions of my favorite anime or is the 4K version enough?

Problem is I've let go plenty of stuff before I've loved but then never got around to replace. I've been thinking of just keeping the movie which probably is my favorite bit of Slayers but I can't keep everything.

Thanks all for the input I was curious as what others thought of it.

If I decide that I don't want to rewatch a show again, I sell it.

That's basically what I do too. I've been revisiting some of my anime collection and realizing that I'm not feeling certain series anymore. I don't do blind buys either.

It still surprises me how much of my physical media collection I've gotten rid of over the last year and a half. Never imagined I'd become one of those people who prefers digital but here I am.
