I would imagine because movies probally sell more over here. And sometimes need gimicks to sell overseas. I know thats why alot of 360 gave away free faceplates and stuff like that with the purchase of games overseas.

In Canada, the reason we were given is that Future Shop wants to break the loyalty people have to their stores, A&B Sound, HMV, etc... People get attached to their small stores too, and don't want to give business to the big ******* on the market

I thought it was because the factories that actually make the steel books are based in Europe.

There are quite a few SteelBooks released in the U.S. on DVD, so I can't see why we don't get them on BD...

Yes, there is a plant in Ohio. There was a press release on their website about it, but it looks like they took it down. It was opened in 2007 or 2008.

I think there are more plants spread out over Europe though, which would explain the ease of a steelbook release in Europe compared to the US.

I'm sure it costs more to put out a movie with a steelbook when compared to a standard release, and dvd and blu-ray releases are all about the dollars. It would be nice to see more releases come out in the States in a SteelBook design, but with today's economy, I don't see the market getting flooded here anytime soon.

I also think it is a big corporate consipiracy to get us to import them, and I think they toy with us by not releasing them here. They know they could ask a few more dollars for the SteelBook release to cover the cost difference, but they would rather us search the net for overseas editions, and then have us talk about them with each other, further stirring up interest in the movie and the dvd or blu-ray release. It's a Conspiracy I tell you! (okay, J/K. I think ).

i actually think its a mixture of issues 1. there are a lot of companies/studios competeing for sales in what is really a small area such as Europe and
2. because they actually have the market for these steelbooks in other countries people in the states just want to buy for as cheap as they can so there's not much incentive to release limited editions or steelbooks here

certainly you'll see SB's/limited editions during christmas because people are more inclined to spend the extra few dollars, but not throughout the year.
